New system to reduce risks by Honeywell
Honeywell has announced the introduction of a new training program for process industry operators who use Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS).
The Certified Functional Safety Expert “CFSE” - IEC 61508 training programme is designed to help process industries reduce risk, cut costs and comply with government safety regulations, such as OSHA CFR1910.119 in the United States, or Seveso II Directive [96/082/EEC] in Europe. Through training, operators will become more familiar with safety-instrumented systems, safety lifecycle management, and safety verification, validation, audits and assessments.
They also can learn how to avoid over-engineering their safety instruments.
“Honeywell has 16 CFSE-certified safety consultants on our Safety Consulting Services team, which is more than any other company offers,” Scott Hillman, worldwide Marketing Director for Honeywell Safety Management Solutions, said last month. “This new training program is evidence of our commitment to help customers make the most of their resources to create safe and profitable working environments over the long-term.”
Lead by Dr. Bert Knegtering, a senior consultant on industrial process safety, the Safety Consulting Services team will provide training and engineering safety best practices to process industry customers.
Dr. Knegtering is a Certified Functional Safety Expert (TÜV certified) in safety-instrumented systems and has extensive experience in helping operators implement safety lifecycle management applications.
He is member of the CFSE Advisory Board and of the IEC 61511 standard technical committee, which is the process sector specific standard based on IEC 61508.
The Honeywell Safety Consultants Services team will train operators to quickly and accurately assess hazards and risks. Training will include SIS validation and reliability analysis techniques, SIS operation, maintenance and testing, safety integrity level (SIL) selection and safety requirements specification.
Honeywell offers CFSE - IEC 61508 training at Honeywell Safety Management Solutions, located in ‘s-Hertogenbosch, The Netherlands. The training also can take place at any other Honeywell location, and, if necessary, at customer sites.
Additionally, CFSE – IEC 61508 training will take place at Honeywell’s Automation College in Phoenix just before the Honeywell Users Group symposium in June 2005.
Honeywell International is a $26 billion diversified technology and manufacturing leader, serving customers worldwide with aerospace products and services; control technologies for buildings, homes and industry; automotive products; turbochargers; and specialty materials.
