Honeywell expands testing centre in Abu Dhabi

The US automation systems giant Honeywell has expanded its regional testing centre in Abu Dhabi to face strong demand and match its growing presence in the Middle East.

The expansions, inaugurated on February 8, turned the facility into the largest integration centre in the Middle East and Honeywell officials said all the area has already been booked by oil firms from the UAE and other Gulf states.

“ The expansion of the integration centre is proof of Honeywell growth and strong demand for its services in the Gulf and the whole Middle East,” said Jerry Walker, vice president of global operations, Honeywell Process Solutions.

“ The expansion was prompted by the growing needs of our clients in the region…we receive many oil officials and professionals from the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and other Middle East countries for training and testing. The expanded centre began operations last year but it was formally inaugurated today.”

UAE Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, opened the facility at the Centre for Excellence for Applied Research Training (CERT) at the Colleges of Higher Technology in Abu Dhabi.

Honeywell said the centre is dedicated to the verification and testing of automation systems in the energy sector for Middle East-based customers, a technical exercise previously performed only in the United States and Europe.

The facility is spread over 1,000 square metres and includes an additional facility that already existed. During the past two years, the existing facility has been used to stage and test systems for Gasco, Adgas, and other regional clients. Testing and verification activities are currently under way in the new integration centre for major regional customers such as Aramco, Adco and Qafco of Qatar.

Other customers include Adnoc group, Sabic , Bahrain ’s Alba smelter, Dolphin Energy, Qatar Petroleum and other Middle East companies.
