Roxar: Multi-Million Dollar Software Deal from TNK-BP, Russia

Roxar signed a major software agreement with Russia ’s third largest oil company, TNK-BP. The deal consolidates the company’s position as one of the leading software solutions providers to the Russian and CIS oil and gas industry with more than 650 installations.

The agreement will see TNK-BP purchase over 100 licenses of Roxar’s flagship 3D reservoir modeling software, Irap RMS and its reservoir simulation software, Tempest. The licenses will provide TNK-BP’s research & development (R&D) engineering departments with wide-ranging access to the leading reservoir management and production optimization solutions on the market today.

TNK-BP, which employs more than 100,000 people and, in 2004, produced average crude oil production of 1.44 million barrels per day (bpd), will use the software in its main R&D centers including the Tyumen Research and Technology Center , the Izhevsk Research and Technology Center , TNK Nyagan, TNK Nizhnevartovsk, Samotlorneftegaz and Varyoganneftegaz.

Dimitry Bolotnik, head of Roxar’s Moscow office, said in a press statement, “We are delighted to be making this announcement with TNK-BP today. Since we started working together with TNK-BP in 1997 (then the Tyumen Oil Company and SIDANCO), we have continued to broaden and improve our portfolio to deliver truly innovative solutions that serve the changing needs of the oil and gas industry. That we are signing another contract with TNK-BP today - eight years on - is testament to this and our continued investment in our people and technologies. We look forward to helping TNK-BP achieve the best possible performance from their reservoir assets for many years to come.”

Commenting on the deal Roxar CEO, Sandy Esslemont, said in a press statement sent to Pipeline Magazine, “ For today’s Russian oil and gas multinational, success comes down to performance, production and profits. Correspondingly, Roxar’s strength lies in its solutions, which enable everybody involved in the discovery-to-production lifecycle to share critical information, work together more effectively and maximize reservoir performance. The result is a winning combination as TNK-BP achieves maximum reservoir performance and greater profitability and Roxar continues to grow its business throughout Russia and the CIS.

Additional Roxar customers in Russia and the CIS include LUKOIL, Bashneft, Sibneft, Tatneft, Rosneft and Zarubejneft.

Roxar also partners with some of Russia ’s leading petroleum geology institutes, including the I.M. Gubkin State University for Oil and Gas, Moscow State University and Tyumen State University . Roxar has offices in Moscow , Kazakhstan and Tyumen .

Roxar Announces New Corporate Branding

Recently the company also launched its new corporate branding. Its corporate strapline, ‘Maximum Reservoir Performance’, is supposed to reflect the company’s goal to be the technology solutions partner of choice for oil and gas companies of all sizes across the world, helping them achieve the best possible performance from their reservoir assets, today and in the future.

The new look and new branding will illustrate the unique position Roxar holds in the marketplace, due to its ability to deliver an expansive portfolio of robust and proven technology solutions across the reservoir discovery to production lifecycle, say officials.

Esslemont said, “Roxar continues to evolve based on our customers’ changing needs and demanding business requirements. In today’s competitive exploration and production (E&P) industry, where success is dictated and measured by performance, production and profits, working with a proven technology partner focused on the goal of achieving maximum reservoir performance is essential. The time is right to evolve our branding vehicles to better reflect the solutions we offer and the customers we benefit.”

Today, Roxar employs close to 450 people across its head office in Stavanger, Norway, and its global infrastructure of offices in Europe, the Americas, Africa, CIS, Asia-Pacific and the Middle East. Further expansion is planned for South America, Africa and Central Asia in 2005 to better serve its growing international customer base of multinationals, major independents and national oil companies. Over the last 12 months, the company has announced major contracts with oil and gas companies including TOTAL, Norsk Hydro, PETRONAS Carigali, LUKOIL, Burullus, PetroChina and Statoil among others.

Esslemont added, “The new branding runs deeper than creating a fresher face for the company. For our customers, it means a greater focus on their needs and a better customer experience, as we constantly seek to improve the solutions we offer and the quality of service we provide through continuous investment in our people and our core technologies.”

“Roxar’s strength lies in its understanding of the oil and gas reservoir flow dynamics, leading to improvements in individual well performance and greater recovery from the field, and solutions which enable everybody involved in the discovery-to-production lifecycle to share critical information and work together more effectively. The result is minimized risk and increased performance, production and profits. We look forward to getting these messages across through our new branding.”

Roxar’s new branding communicates the scope of solutions the company offers to help customers address today’s reservoir and production management issues, namely Reservoir Interpretation; Reservoir Modeling; Reservoir Simulation; Well and Completion Optimization; Production and Process Management and Consultancy Services.

Roxar is a specialist in reservoir interpretation solutions. Its solutions include easy-to-use 3D tools that provide valuable decision-making information for all stages of the E&P lifecycle.
