Expro acquires in-well wireless communications business
Posted: 13 January 2004
Expro International Group PLC has acquired the In-well Wireless
Communications business of Flight Refuelling Limited.
The acquired business, to be called Wireless Well Solutions, has
developed an industry leading Cableless Telemetry System (CaTS TM)
which is capable of transmitting data electromagnetically from depths
in excess of 10,000 feet.
The field proven CaTS TM system can be run on wireline and suspended
on a suitable hanger or it can be run as part of the completion
equipment. CaTS TM is compatible with a wide range of in-well sensor
systems and well configurations.
The CaTS TM system has a wide range of applications for transmitting
data to the surface in situations where a cable installation is
either not possible or cannot be economically justified. Two-way
communication is also possible, allowing the control of downhole
equipment without the need for cables.
Francis Neill, Marketing & Technical Director said, "This
is a very exciting technology which has the ability to revolutionise
aspects of downhole monitoring and control. Not only can this system
transmit data where it has previously not been possible, but it
also provides a cost-effective method in applications where traditional
solutions cannot be justified on a cost basis."
Neill commented, "This technology is another component in
delivering Expro¹s strategy of focusing on Well Performance
and Production Optimisation."
