Expro acquires well tractoring business
Posted: 13 January 2004
Expro International Group PLC has acquired the Well Tractoring
business of Houston based SmarTract Inc.
The acquired business, to be called Expro Tractor Solutions, will
provide industry leading Downhole Robotics and Tractor services
to the oil and gas industry worldwide.
The SmarTract tractor is a unique electro-hydraulic crawler-type
tractor that provides an extremely reliable method of deploying
tools in high deviation wells and horizontal wells on wireline,
providing a cost-effective alternative to drill pipe and coiled
tubing. Its ability to apply force either up or down in the wellbore
also makes it ideal for manipulating tubing mounted equipment such
as plugs and sliding sleeves.
"This is a very exciting technology that we believe is about
to come of age in the oil and gas industry. With increasing numbers
of high angle and horizontal wells being drilled, the need for a
reliable, cost-effective means to deploy tools in these wells is
essential. The SmarTract tractor has established an enviable reputation
for reliability, with tens of thousands of feet tractored in-well
without failure.," said Francis Neill, Marketing and Technical
Director.
"This acquisition is another component in delivering Expro's
strategy of positioning itself as the leading Well Performance and
Production Optimisation company," he concluded.
