GE Energy to supply equipment for Buzzard field project in the North
Sea
Posted: 15 January 2004
GE Energy will supply gas turbine-generator sets and centrifugal
compressor packages to EnCana (UK) Limited for its Buzzard Field
Development Project, an offshore oil field located in the North
Sea approximately 100 kilometers northeast of Aberdeen, Scotland.
The contract covers the supply of three aeroderivative, high-efficiency
PGT 25+ gas turbines and waste heat recovery units. The gas turbines,
rated at approximately 30 megawatts at ISO conditions, will use
both natural gas and liquid fuel.
In addition, GE will provide five electric motor-driven, centrifugal
compressor packages for gas lift and gas export services. The power
output of these units ranges from two to six megawatts.
"EnCana's selection of our technology for this major project
is an important win for our business, representing one of the most
significant contracts we received during 2003," said Claudi
Santiago, president of GE Energy's oil and gas operations.
GE will design, engineer, manufacture and test all of the equipment.
The gas turbines will be manufactured at GE Energy's facilities
in Florence, Italy, while the compressors will be manufactured at
the company's facilities in Le Creusot, France.
The compressors are scheduled for shipment to the project site
in the fourth quarter of 2004 and the gas turbines in the first
quarter of 2005.
GE Energy's oil and gas operations are headquartered in Florence,
Italy, the home of Nuovo Pignone, a long-time global leader in gas
compression and turbo generation products. GE acquired Nuovo Pignone
in 1994 and since then has continued to expand its oil and gas business
by acquiring or developing partnerships with other technology and
experience leaders in the industry.
