Keppel secures $34 million contract from NEA
Posted: 26 January 2004
Keppel Integrated Engineering (KIE), through its wholly owned subsidiaries,
has secured a $34 million environmental engineering contract from
the National Environment Agency (NEA).
This design and build contract marks yet another milestone in the
successful collaboration between Keppel Engineering Pte Ltd (KEPL)
and Seghers Keppel Technology Group (SKG) to offer turnkey services
with proprietary technology packages.
KEPL will undertake the turnkey construction of a flue gas treatment
plant at the Tuas Incineration Plant, while SKG will provide its
proprietary technologies to remove particulates and other pollutants
from the flue gas generated from burning of wastes.
Said Mr Yick Ping Wong, Managing Director of KIE, “This is
an extremely delicate project as it requires the existing incineration
plant to continue operating while the flue gas treatment plant is
being constructed.
“With the combined experience and expertise of KEPL and SKG,
we are confident that we can complete the project on schedule.”
Construction of the flue gas treatment plant is expected to be
completed by third quarter 2005.
Presently, KEPL and SKG are also involved in a $200 million contract
from Public Utilities Board (PUB) for the construction and installation
of a sewage processing module at the Changi Water Reclamation Plant
in Singapore.
KEPL has also been engaged by PUB to design and construct a water
treatment pilot plant to convert seawater and storm water to potable
water. Designed by KEPL for portability and easy transportation
for installation at various sites, the pilot plant will utilise
state-of-the-art desalination and water treatment technologies to
produce potable water.
ISO 9001:2000 certified, KEPL is focused on environmental engineering.
KEPL has undertaken and successfully completed numerous local and
international projects, including BOO, BOT, and turnkey EPC-type
projects in Singapore, China, Malaysia and Philippines. KIE is a
division of the Infrastructure arm of Keppel Corporation.
Based in Belgium, SKG is a leading technology provider of engineering
products and services to solve a wide spectrum of environmental
issues including treatment of municipal solid waste, hazardous waste,
wastewater, potable water and biosolids.
SKG has its own R&D arm to develop proprietary technologies
in environmental engineering. It has the expertise and flexibility
to meet individual client’s need for comprehensive and cost-effective
solutions while safeguarding the environment.
This contract is not expected to have any significant impact on
the net tangible assets and earnings per share of Keppel Corporation
for the current financial year.
