industry
Posted: 05 February 2004
Etisalat recently held a one-day 3G presentation and get-together
at the Mina A’Salam Hotel in Dubai for the mobile telecommunications
industry aimed at raising awareness and stimulating growth within
the high potential third generation mobile market.
This event is the next phase which follows the commercial launch
of 3G in the UAE at the end of last year, which made Etisalat the
first telecommunications operator in the Middle East to introduce
the most talked about communications technology in the world today.
Mohammed Al Fahim Etisalat’s Executive Vice President of
Marketing opened the conference by welcoming local and international
guests representing mobile handset manufacturers, mobile retailers,
resellers, content and application providers. Al Fahim then proceeded
to highlight Etisalat’s strategic vision and roadmap for 3G
services in 2004.
The presentation and networking event was well attended by leading
companies in the technology industry.
“Following the launch of third generation mobile services
last December, we have now stepped into the future,” said
Al Fahim. “This technology will add an invaluable dimension
to mobile services that are already an integral part of modern business
and personal life such as Internet access, video-conferencing and
interactive application sharing.
“We know from our experiences with EWAP and m-Net GPRS that
the UAE is very technology hungry and that the world is watching
to see the uptake of 3G in this market,” added Al Fahim.
Khalifa Al Forah, Manager Mobile Systems Planning at Etisalat gave
the delegates a detailed introduction to the sophisticated network
infrastructure built and tested by Etisalat over the last two years
to ensure maximum service levels. Al Forah then continued to give
a detailed explanation of the 3G network’s coverage areas
and the compatibility requirements of 3G handsets.
The event was concluded with a presentation by Khalid Al Kaf, Etisalat’s
General Manager, Network Services who discussed Etisalat’s
development of a state-of-the-art Service Delivery Platform. This
will allow third-party content and application providers to make
their products and services available to Etisalat’s customers
seamlessly through a variety of mobile technologies and is due for
launch in the third-quarter of 2004.
