The 9th Annual Middle East Power Generation Summit
Posted: 9 February 2004
Saudi Arabia's state-owned oil giant Saudi Aramco signed a deal
for a two billion riyals ($533.3 million) power generation project
with a private consortium including UK company International Power.
The agreement is the first large-scale independent power project
(IPP) to be undertaken in the kingdom by the private sector.
With the Energy demand in the Gulf growing at between 7 per cent
and 10 per cent per annum, compared to the global average of 3 per
cent, the trend is set to continue. The electricity utilities of
the region will continue to confront major challenges as more and
more countries commercialise and privatise their electricity and
water sectors.
At the 9th Annual Middle East Power Generation Summit, scheduled
to take place from 15 - 18 February 2004 in Dubai, Eng. Mohammed
Dashash, Manager of Power Distribution at Saudi Aramco will address
the new challenges facing the power generation industry and strategies
on how to meet demand in the next 5 - 10 years.
Also scheduled to address the summit is Eng Salim Al Marri, Former
Deputy Director General (Eastern Region) of Saudi Electricity Company
(SEC). Eng Al Marri will discuss efficient water and power production
technologies, conservation and loss reduction policies and future
demand trends.
2004 sees the 9th Annual Middle East Power Generation Summit joining
forces with the Middle East Electricity Exhibition, providing an
ideal platform to discuss issues pertinent to the power professionals
today.
