BJ
Services receives contractor HSE award from BP Norge
Posted: 23 February 2004
BJ Services Company today announced that it has received the BP
Norge 2003 Contractor HSE (Health, Safety & Environmental) Award.
Every year, BP Norge hosts a Contractor HSE day to recognise outstanding
contributions by selected contractors, share experiences and good
practices, and celebrate successes.
BJ Services was selected to receive the BP Norge Contractor HSE
Award from 18 of BP Norge’s top contractors that service BP
assets in the Norwegian sector of the North Sea.
BJ Services has been providing BP Norway with a range of well services
in the North Sea, including coiled tubing services from BJ’s
Norwegian base in Tananger and stimulation services using the MV
Vestfonn, BJ Services’ state-of-the-art offshore stimulation
vessel. Services will continue to be carried out on approximately
28 wells located in BP Norge AS’ Valhall Field development
in the Norwegian sector of the North Sea.
BJ won the award for a number of reasons. “First, BJ made
a concerted effort to take on full ownership of all BP's HSE goals,
rules and regulations, both on and offshore,” said Scott Kerr,
managing director of BP Norge. “Second, they have experienced
no “days away from work cases,” “restricted work
injuries” or spills since they began operating in February
2003 from the Vestfonn. Third, 18 months into the BJ-BP coiled tubing
contract, BJ has a clean HSE record. All of these factors combined
are outstanding, and illustrate a solid commitment to HSE. With
80 percent of man-hours offshore provided by contractors, top HSE
performance is critical to BP Norge. We appreciate BJ’s efforts,
and look forward to future success,” he added.
Sharing HSE Knowledge
The BP Norge 2003 Contractor HSE Award, which is a painting
by Norwegian artist Kjell Pahr-Iversen, was presented at the BP
Norge Contractor Day in Stavanger, Norway. “BJ works very
hard to deliver outstanding HSE performance to BP, both on and offshore,
so recognition of our efforts is greatly appreciated,” said
John Taylor, MV Vestfonn operations manager for BJ Services, who
accepted the award on behalf of BJ Services. “The Contractor
HSE Day was a fantastic opportunity to share our HSE experiences
and practices, and to benefit from HSE knowledge offered not only
by BP, but by our fellow contractors. It was a highly motivating
experience that will have a direct impact on our continuing commitment
to safety culture, and I look forward to the BJ team participating
in the event next year.”
At the meeting, BP Norge presented its plans to improve its key
indicator performance in 2004. The BP Business Unit will develop
its safety culture by setting clear goals, providing mandatory safety
leadership training, and building a culture where personnel will
accept intervention.
