Invensys
and Scientific Design provide advanced process control for ethylene
oxide and ethylene glycol plants
Posted: 26 February 2004
Solution will result in significant cost savings to end
users through the combination of optimal process design and advanced
process control
Invensys, a world leader in industrial process control, and Scientific
Design, one of the leading process technology and catalyst development
companies, announced a unique marketing agreement.
Under this agreement, the two companies will jointly implement
Advanced Process Control (APC) in ethylene oxide (EO) and ethylene
glycol (EG) facilities using Invensys’ Connoisseur suite of
software and services in conjunction with Scientific Design’s
advanced licensed process technology and services. Connoisseur MPC
(Multivariable Predictive Control) software, a product of Invensys’
SimSci-Esscor Invensys unit, is widely used throughout the hydrocarbons
processing and other industries to help improve economic performance.
Historically, APC suppliers were limited in the benefits they could
deliver to end users since the advanced control was not leveraged
against the optimal process mechanical design. This joint marketing
arrangement is designed to provide a controller that incorporates
Scientific Design’s best practices in the operation and design
of the EO reactor and down stream equipment, making this the most
complete offering on the market today for EO/EG facilities.
This unique offering will allow end users in EO and EG facilities
to increase production, improve selectivity, adjust heavy glycol
production, prolong catalysts life, optimize inhibitor levels, and
optimize energy usage. The combined Scientific Design/Invensys control
solution is expected to deliver typical economic benefits of at
least $700,000 per year to end-users, based on 300,000 tons per
year production.
