Regional VAD offers support for major document management
project using two major international vendors, Kodak and Kofax
Valuevad, the Middle East’s leading value-added distributor
(VAD) for KODAK, recently supplied DocMan, UAE's leading records
management and imaging services provider, with KODAK i260 scanners
for an extensive scanning project for a major government department.
The project, completed recently, took five weeks and involved scanning
and capturing data from 600,000 sheets of double sided A3 documents.
“After evaluating various scanners, we (DocMan) chose to use
two Kodak i260 scanners,” said Dalip Tripathi, Sales and Marketing
Manager, DocMan. “The scanners offered a high throughput,
and exceptional paper handling ability. Resultant images were of
a high quality while maintaining small file sizes.”
DocMan is the region’s leading records management and imaging
services provider, with a uniquely comprehensive suite of services
which bridge the gap between physical and electronic records management.
DocMan has used Kodak and Kofax products for several other projects.
The data capture requirements of the recent project required the
use of software with high reliability in Optical Mark Recognition
(OMR) and barcode recognition. Kofax Ascent Capture was used because
of it superior recognition engines, and flexibility which resulted
in a workflow which was precisely suited to the project requirements.
“The scanners were used for 14 hours a day, six days a week,
and were backed up by onsite support by Valuevad,” added Tripathi.
“Along with the software, the scanners performed seamlessly,
and resulted in the project being completed a week ahead of schedule.”
The KODAK i260 Scanner (part of the KODAK i200 series) delivers
the fastest colour scanning in its class, up to 134 images per minute.
Its electronic colour dropout feature lets the user easily eliminate
lines and shaded boxes for non-essential background objects, making
automated data extraction more accurate.
“These scanners offer virtually trouble-free operation,”
pointed out Lars Jeppesen, MD, Valuevad. “Whether you need
to scan 30,000 or more documents every day or 1,000 documents in
the shortest time possible per day, there's a scanner with the volume
capacity and speed to support cost-effective processing.”
The i260 (duplex) model, like the one used by DocMan, comes with
KODAK’s exclusive Perfect Page Scanning. This suite of built-in
technologies automatically makes colour, greyscale and bitonal scans
incredibly clear, for excellent readability, both by people and
OCR software alike. It also comes bundled with ISIS and TWAIN drivers
and KODAK’s Capture Software, Lite.
Kofax Ascent Capture is the most popular information capture application
worldwide. It accelerates business processes by collecting paper
documents, forms and e-documents, transforming them into accurate,
retrievable information, and delivering it all into your business
applications and databases. It offers unmatched compatibility with
scanners and other capture devices, plus content and document management
systems, workflow applications and databases.
“Ascent Capture delivers powerful, production-level document
and data capture,” said Jeppesen. “For document capture,
it boasts the fastest, most flexible scanning and indexing solution
around. For data capture, it can extract important information such
as hand-printed words, machine-printed text, bar codes and even
checked boxes.”
Kofax Ascent Capture can use the same powerful indexing and validation
process to capture information that doesn’t start on paper,
such as electronic documents, multimedia files and even XML feeds
from other systems.
That means that any workflow or content-management system gets
consistently indexed content – no matter what the source –
and enterprises get reliable, easy and fast retrieval of all information.
According to Jeppesen, Kofax has sold over 50,000 Ascent Capture
licenses worldwide into industries as diverse as state and local
government, manufacturing, transportation, financial services, insurance,
healthcare, accounting, and legal.
