King
of Norway to attend opening of Interspill 2004
Posted: 22 March 2004
HM King Harald will undertake the official opening of the comprehensive,
international Oil Spill Technology Conference and Exhibition in
Trondheim, Norway, on 14 June.
The announcement was very well received by the President of Interspill
2004, Mr Tore W. Sundquist.
“We are exceedingly glad that His Majesty thus demonstrates
genuine interest in this truly important global challenge. His presence
will undoubtedly enhance the significance of this event, which will
attract the finest expertise in the world on oil spill prevention
and response”, Mr Sundquist says.
Interspill 2004 is organised by NOSCA (Norwegian Oil Spill Control
Association), which co-owns the Interspill concept through a separate
agreement with the sister organisations in France (Sycopol) and
Great Britain (BOSCA). Mr Sundquist says that there is a very keen
interest in both the conference and the exhibition. The event is
expected to attract some 700 participants.
The four-day conference features the main theme “Clean Seas,
Global Concern, Local Solutions.” The conference programme
includes 70 contributions by speakers representing 20 countries.
In addition, 10 experts are invited to the main session. Among
them we find the Norwegian Minister of Fisheries and the Minister
of Fisheries and Shipping of Galicia, Spain, Mr Enrique César
López Veiga.
The latter will especially address The Prestige incident and the
subsequent impacts on the fishery and fish farming industries in
Spain and France.
Mr Tore W. Sundquist is also pleased that the USA and Russia have
located a workshop to Trondheim in connection with Interspill and
their bilateral agreement on cooperation on oil spill prevention
and response.
“This emphasizes the importance of the event and the fact
that delegates may acquaint themselves with available top equipment
and technology presented at the show,” Mr Sundquist concludes.
