Hitachi
Data Systems makes Middle East debut
Posted: 12 April 2004
Hitachi Data Systems, a wholly owned subsidiary of Hitachi, Ltd.
and a leading data storage solutions provider, is to enter the Middle
East market for the first time.
The company will debut at the Storage World Middle East event being
held in Dubai from the 23-25th May and has announced the appointment
of three regional strategic partners: Sun Microsystems, STME and
Naizak.
“The Middle East market is one that we recognise as having
enormous growth potential. Until now, choice in the market has been
limited and we are pursuing an aggressive market launch strategy
to redress that situation,” said Brian Moroney, General Manager,
MEMA (Middle East, Mediterranean and Africa) at Hitachi Data Systems.
“Hitachi views the Middle East as an important emerging market
and we’re deploying resources in the region to meet the very
significant demand we are now seeing from local organisations.”
Hitachi Data Systems’ key partners will service customers
in the Middle East region. Sun Microsystems is already a global
Hitachi Data Systems partner, STME is a regional leader in enterprise
storage technology solutions and Naizak is a specialised regional
business solutions integrator and systems house. All three appointments
are effective immediately and will provide services with extensive
regional in-country resources.
Recognised by Gartner Dataquest as the global leader in enterprise
class storage, Hitachi Data Systems is backing Dubai’s Storage
World Middle East event as part of its market entry strategy. It
will be using the show to demonstrate its data lifecycle management
(DLM) approach to data storage. The demonstration illustrates how
companies should tackle their data storage issues by using a mix
of management software and powerful, intelligent storage systems.
Hitachi Data Systems’ storage solutions revolve around its
key products:
The Lightning systems meet the needs of the Middle East’s
largest enterprise organisations: governments, banks, airlines and
major business houses and provide highly manageable storage for
mission critical applications with over 140 Terabytes of capacity.
The Thunder class storage systems are scalable, modular systems
that support business requirements at all levels, providing highly
intelligent, automated and fault tolerant storage in an affordable
package.
HiCommand is the company’s Storage Area Management (SAM)
software suite, which helps simplify and reduce the cost of managing
complex storage environments. HiCommand gives customers the freedom
to choose the optimal management tools for their storage environments.
It also provides a number of services, including policy-based automation,
which applies business rules to storage systems operations.
“People aren’t just storing dumb data today. They need
access to the images, the emails, the correspondence and other documents
triggered by an event or a project. Data lifecycle management means
the ability to access whole datasets from archival. Hitachi is undoubtedly
a leader in these advanced, intelligent, storage management applications,”
Moroney commented.
“There is a very real need in the region today for advanced
enterprise storage systems, as well as a strong market for modular
storage solutions and archival management systems in the business
market. We believe that we have the products, solutions and service
capabilities to meet that market demand,” said Moroney.
“Businesses today are building competitive advantage on information
technology platforms, but this is resulting in an increased reliance
on access to information across the organisation,” added Moroney.
“It is increasingly critical that this access is maintained
on a 24x7 basis. Hitachi’s storage solutions are globally
recognised as providing unique levels of reliability in environments
where information access is truly business critical.
