Aberdeen's
PSL Energy notch up British first in Bulgaria
Posted: 15 April 2004
Oil and gas services specialists PSL Energy Services Ltd have broken
new ground with the award of a pipeline precommissioning contract
in Bulgaria.
It’s believed the Aberdeen-based company is the first British
firm to have been contracted to carry out this type of work in the
east European country.
The six-figure award by Petrico SARL - a subsidiary of Edinburgh-based
Melrose Resources – is for precommissioning on a 14”
diameter pipeline from Varna to an offshore platform on the Galata
development in the Black Sea.
The workscope includes flooding with water, pressure testing and
line dewatering, with PSL supplying pumps, compressors and personnel.
PSL Energy Services managing director, Doug Duguid, said winning
the Bulgarian contract highlighted the company’s strengths
in being able to operate in a wide range of challenging environments
in any part of the world.
Mr Duguid said: “There was a short lead time on this job
but we were able to respond immediately and the client was impressed
with our track record in doing similar work in the North Sea sector.
“As far as we are aware this is the first time a British
company has been used for this type of work in Bulgaria and we are
delighted to be involved in the initial development stages of the
Galata project.
“We hope that this first job will strengthen PSL’s
reputation in an emerging market and bring further awards in the
future.”
PSL’s pipeline division also notched up another success with
an £100,000 award from Technip for precommissioning work on
the Shell operated Pierce field in the North Sea.
Mr Duguid added: “These wins are further evidence that PSL
are more than capable of working in any part of the world. It is
also other important step towards our goal of increasing our international
reach while giving best value to our existing clients in the North
Sea continental shelf.
“We have a reputation as an industry leader in health and
safety matters, as our recent win in the Scottish Offshore Achievement
Awards showed, and are committed to providing clients across the
world with cost-effective, innovative solutions that add value to
their business.”
