Growing Oil and Gas Conference Returns to Dubai

Posted: 28 April 2004

The 2nd Middle East Artificial Lift Forum (MEALF) will be held on 1st and 2nd June 2004 in the Al Bustan Rotana Hotel, Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

This technical conference was launched last year for the oil and gas industry in the Middle East and attracted over 200 delegates. It proved so popular that organisers are holding a second event this year with increased conference capacity.

The event’s organisers have responded to feedback from delegates last year, which was overwhelmingly in favour of the event being located in Dubai again. Delegates also asked for the 2nd MEALF to be held in 2004, rather than two years later in 2005 as originally proposed.

Chairman of the Technical Committee Alastair Baillie, Director of Engineering Insights, said “Artificial lift is increasingly important in extracting reserves of oil and gas. This conference tackles the technical issues involved, specifically in the Middle East area.”

MEALF’s Technical Committee has selected the best of presentations submitted by industry experts world-wide. The committee includes senior representatives of the companies most active in the use and provision of artificial lift in the Middle East - ADCO, Al Khorayef, Baker Hughes Centrilift, KOC, PDO, Saudi Aramco, Schlumberger Artificial Lift, Shell, Weatherford ALS, Wood Group ESP and Zenith Oilfield Technology. The Committee’s aim is for MEALF to promote dialogue and discussion among new and existing artificial lift users by sharing best practices, experiences and case histories.

The keynote address to the 2nd MEALF will be given by Mr Saif Al-Hinai, Northern Oil Director of PDO Oman.

The conference will cover various forms of artificial lift; ESPs, gas lift, PCP and beam pumps. It will comprise case studies, ground-breaking new techniques and innovative solutions from locations including Yemen, on and offshore Saudi Arabia, South East Asia and Oman. Presentation subjects include 1600 HP ESP, variable frequency drive system, ESP run-time review, gas lift optimisation, compressor modelling, smart well technology, beam pump run-life, new rigless gas lift and casing head pressure fine tuning in a dual string gas lift well. Proceedings at MEALF will be in English.

Forum Sessions, designed to encourage participation by delegates, will be offered on:

  • Artificial lift selection
  • New technologies and applications
  • Joint industry projects for the Middle East
  • Pump monitoring, control and optimisation
  • Contracting methods
  • Gas lift design and optimisation

A comprehensive exhibition featuring equipment, tools, technologies and services for the artificial lift sector of the oil and gas industry in the Middle East will again accompany MEALF. Even more companies are expected to exhibit at MEALF this year because the conference now has a track record of attracting a large number of specialist professionals.

The conference is preceded by an Artificial Lift Workshop on 31st May which provides an introduction and update to artificial lift selection, and design and equipment.

Delegate fees are being held at last year’s prices, with substantial discounts offered for early booking by 30 April and further discounts for Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) members.
