New camera running tool attaches CamScan EVO² to drill
pipe
EV Offshore Ltd, a leading provider of camera inspection systems,
today announced that following the recent introduction of its new
subsea camera inspection system CamScan EVO², the company is
dramatically expanding its fleet.
According to EV Offshore, global demand from drilling, completion
and subsea contractors and oil companies for the CamScan EVO²
has been very high. “We’re receiving requests from around
the world for the CamScan EVO2 from engineers who want to use it
for a wide variety of applications. Whether it’s to inspect
wells during cleaning, completions or workovers, or to solve problems
downhole or subsea when things don’t go as planned, they want
to make sure they can mobilize an inspection camera immediately
to investigate, and solve problems quickly,” said David Clover,
Director of EV Offshore.
Why is this particular system so highly sought after? “Reliability,
availability and flexibility are the key issues. Customers know
that it works and can be used for multiple tasks. A secondary benefit
of the CamScan EVO² is that unlike its predecessor, it doesn’t
have to be serviced in the UK. The design allows for world-class
global support,” said Clover. The improved design greatly
reduces service time, allowing higher availability and less down
time between jobs.
To ensure that customer orders and rental requirements are fulfilled
promptly, EV Offshore has built an additional seven CamScan EVO²
systems. The CamScan EVO² systems will be based in Aberdeen
permanently by the end of May, allowing for 24/7 call out.
New Camera Running Tool Simplifies Downhole, Wellhead and
Subsea Visual Inspection
To offer engineers the ability to capture visual data while drill
pipe is being run, EV Offshore has teamed up with engineering design
company Pilot Drilling Control of Lowestoft, England to introduce
a new camera running tool.
The new Drill Pipe Running Tool, with integral flush-through capability,
makes it possible to attach the CamScan EVO² to drill pipe
so that, in addition to downhole pressure, temperature and other
essential downhole data, engineers can now access conditions visually
in real-time.
With its black and white low-light camera, and a high definition
colour camera, engineers now have access to a quality, high-resolution
visual images. Armed with a comprehensive picture of conditions
downhole, operations may be carried out with even greater accuracy
and confidence.
Completion, subsea and drilling engineers are also able to act
more quickly and confidently because the new system makes it possible
to download pictures and short movies from the camera to a memory
stick, from which they are transferred onto a PC for emailing to
shore.
The new CamScan EVO² system, which debuted at Oceanology International
in London in March, is the latest addition to the EV Offshore’s
CamScan family of subsea camera inspection systems. Since 2000,
the CamScan has been used to carry out more than 120 successful
inspection operations worldwide.
EV Offshore Camera Inspection Systems at OTC Stand No. 2350
Visitors to Offshore Technology Conference in Houston from May 3
- 6 will be pleased to learn that the CamScan EVO² is available
to view at EV Offshore’s stand no. 2350.

subsea and topside camera inspection systems for the international
upstream oil and gas industries. Founded in 2000 in Norwich, England,
EV Offshore is known throughout the world for its CamScan family
of camera inspection systems that improve safety, and reduce production
downtime and operating costs.
Over time, the CamScan inspection system has been deployed on behalf
of major operators to carry out subsea inspection services in every
oil and gas-producing region. The company also provides a range
of design consultancy services for a wide variety of subsea activities.
Since 2001, EV Offshore has twice received the Innovation Award
from subsea technology specialist VideoRay of Exton, Pennsylvania,
most recently for designing a dual-powered version of the company’s
miniature remote-operated vehicle. In 2002, EV Offshore was granted
a SMART Award from the UK’s Department of Trade and Industry
to fund feasibility investigation of a highly specialized subsea
camera inspection system called “EVOLeye” for use at
depths in excess of 20,000ft for HPHT deployment
EV Offshore is a sister company of the EV Group which was founded
in 1986. EV Group is a highly successful designer and manufacturer
of specialized camera and inspection systems for use in the broadcast
and industrial inspection industries, as well as on-board cameras
for the motor sports industries.
The company’s specialized mini-cameras have operated successfully
on air, land and sea, including Formula One racing cars, World Rally
cars, BT Global Challenge yachts, Tornado fighter jets, Apache Ground
Attack helicopters and World Class powerboats. In December 2003,
EV Group was listed on the Inner City 100 Index for 2003. The company
