ConocoPhillips forms global gas organisation

Posted: 07 May 2004

ConocoPhillips has formed a Global Gas organisation — a new division of its Exploration & Production (E&P) segment.

Sig Cornelius, currently president of U.S. Lower 48, Latin America & Midstream, will become president, Global Gas, effective immediately. Cornelius will report to Bill Berry, executive vice president of E&P.

The Global Gas organisation will have responsibility for ConocoPhillips’ worldwide natural gas strategy, as well as the commercialisation and profitability of key natural gas assets, including liquefied natural gas projects and regasification terminals, gas-to-liquids and power businesses, and major gas pipeline efforts.

This change in the company’s organisational structure reflects the significant scale of its growing natural gas business. “Gas projects worldwide have become an important part of ConocoPhillips’ upstream business,” said Berry. “Consolidating our global gas activities under one organisation will allow us to more effectively develop our gas business, better leverage our technology and expertise worldwide, and enhance our ability to deliver product to the marketplace.”

Cornelius joined the company in 1980 and has held several positions in the natural gas and gas projects groups. He also has served in multiple upstream business development and upstream finance roles, as well as president of both Conoco Canada Ltd. and Dubai Petroleum Company. He was treasurer for the company from 2001 to 2002. Cornelius has a bachelor’s degree from Iowa State University and earned Master of Science degrees in Management from both Purdue and Stanford University.

ConocoPhillips is an integrated oil company with interests around the world. Headquartered in Houston, the company had approximately 37,200 employees and $84 billion of assets as of March 31, 2004.
