Posted: 12 May 2004

Oracle E-Business Suite and Collaboration Suite at the core of the initiative

Oracle Corporation, the world’s largest enterprise software company, announced that Samim Group, an Abu Dhabi trading group of companies, has selected Linux as the deployment platform for Oracle E-Business Suite which will centralise and streamline the company’s financial systems and distribution activities

The comprehensive automation initiative includes Oracle Purchasing, Oracle Order Management, Oracle Inventory, Oracle Financials, Oracle Manufacturing, and Oracle HRMS creating cross-functional synergies and greater financial visibility across its different lines of business.

The group intends to automate its external and internal systems, increasing employee productivity and overall cost control. The company is also deploying Oracle Collaboration Suite on Linux to enhance collaboration between its employees, suppliers, partners and customers via Oracle Collaboration Suite’s email, file management and calendaring capabilities.

Samim Group has also selected Oracle Collaboration Suite to create an integrated messaging and collaboration infrastructure to provide email, voicemail, fax, calendaring, and file-sharing capabilities. The Oracle environment will run on the Linux platform, which Samim Group opted for based on its associated lower total cost of ownership, improved reliability and security.

Mr. Reza Alavi, Head of Strategic Planning, Samim Group stated: “Our organisation required a comprehensive system to help us streamline and integrate the different processes within the group, from order fulfilment to accounting and internal communications. We believe that greater visibility and control will reduce our costs and enable us to increase our level of customer service, which in turn makes Samim Group a more viable and competitive organisation,”

“From a technology perspective, running the Oracle E-Business Suite and Oracle Collaboration Suite on Linux creates a cost-effective, reliable environment with scalability to expand as our business grows. From a business standpoint, we selected Oracle based on the seamless integration of its solutions, as well as Oracle’s regional office’s direct commitment and superior level of support to Samim Group,” he added.

To improve customer delivery times and general service levels, Oracle E-Business Suite will enables Samim Group to link supply and demand processes; provide its customers with accurate, timely order promises; and then efficiently deliver on those commitments. Increased business intelligence will enable the trading group to better understand customer trends and buying patterns to create more tailored products and services for its target markets.

The Oracle Collaboration Suite is set to boost employee ease and efficiency of communication. The solution integrates messaging, calendaring, file sharing, real-time communications, wireless access, calendar and time management, and voicemail and fax services, enabling the company’s sales force to communicate with different offices and the production facility to ensure that customer requirements are met.

Husam Dajani, Oracle’s Vice President for the Middle East & Africa said: “Trading to serve a diversity of industries across the UAE means that Al Samim Group requires both a highly streamlined and automated environment to ensure that its products are of the highest quality, as well as the logistics and customer care facilities to satisfy such a wide base of customers,”

“With its expertise in the trading sector as well as integrated solutions that immediately impact customers’ bottom lines, Oracle is thrilled to be the technology partner of choice for the group as it becomes a more efficient, competitive, and customer-focused organisation,” Dajani concluded.
