World’s
energy leaders meet at HP’s 4th Annual Executive Energy Conference
in Dubai

HP hosted its 4th Annual Executive Energy Conference for oil &
gas and utilities industries on May 24-26, 2004, at Burj Al Arab,
Dubai. The event attracted market experts from all over the world
to share their views on recent developments in the global energy
industry and their visions for the future.
Participants were welcomed on May 25th by Francois Bornibus, Managing
Director of International Sales Europe at HP, who introduced the
conference theme “Innovation and Change”. Francois went
on to highlight the impact of technology on the industry and the
need for business and technology strategies to be in alignment.
Two keynote speakers delivered valuable opinions on oil & gas
and utilities industries. Alexander van de Putte, Senior Strategy
and Investment Advisor to the Committee of Managing Directors at
Shell International, talked about global exploration and production
opportunities in the face of declining reserves, technological challenges,
geopolitical risk and competition. Chris Harris, Head of Advisory
Services at RWE Innogy, made a presentation titled “EU Enlargement
and Utilities” in which he confirmed HP’s view that
technology is a key driver for change as the accession countries
adapt to meet the challenges of their new status within the EU.
Ali Ferling, General Manager of the Global Oil and Gas Industry
at HP, provided detailed information on the concept of what HP refers
to as the “adaptive energy enterprise”. Wolfgang Rosenberg,
Marketing Manager of the EMEA Manufacturing and Energy at Intel,
confirmed Intel’s commitment to upstream operations, where
powerful Intel based servers and workstations drive cost –
efficient energy exploration and reservoir profitability.
Robert Stephens, Program Director, Business Development Oil and
Gas, SAP, outlined his vision of the “Digital Oilfield of
the Future”. Dr. Stefan Engelhardt, Head of Business Development
and Solution Strategy, Industry Business Unit Utilities, SAP, dwelled
on how modern software can help to manage the current industry challenges.
On May 26, there were parallel sessions for oil & gas and utilities
industries. There were presentations by respected energy experts
from HP, SAP, iRM, and Schlumberger. The sessions also comprised
five case studies and two forums.
