Intel
and Oracle team up on collaboration suite
Posted: 30 May 2004
Enabled to work on Intel based server platforms, the Oracle
Collaboration Suite will be offered as one stop solution through
integrators in the region
Intel Corporation today announced that it has pooled resources
with Oracle Corporation to develop a solution to help integrators
offer state of the art integrated systems to their customers in
small to medium enterprises.
Enabled to work on the Intel Xeon processor the Oracle Collaboration
Suite (OCS) is an integrated system for business communications
and information needs, that includes Web conferencing, files, email,
voicemail, and fax, to enable various individuals and departments
to work together with the ability to store and search information
using the power of the Oracle Database.
With their cooperation Intel and Oracle intend to make state of
the art computing solutions more affordable and cost effective for
enterprises of all sizes, giving employees the tools they need to
communicate almost anywhere using any device, in real time.
Intel and Oracle also announced that they will embark on a regional
road show to increase solution integrators’ awareness about
this new offering that may help them make leeway into the cost-conscious
SME segment.
The Intel-OCS bundle is already being utilised across the Middle
East, in verticals such as Education, Government, Retail, Trade,
Manufacturing, and more recently, Hospitals. Dr. Mukhtar Al Hashmi
Head of IT of the Bahrain Defence Force Hospital believes that such
a bundle has enabled the various departments within the hospital
to communicate and collaborate better “The Bahrain Defence
Force Hospital opted for OCS based on Intel architecture as a method
to optimize our business processes and ease communication within
the hospital. For us, this means a reduction in cost, an increase
in productivity, and most important of all, more efficient and faster
health care and services for our patients and their families”.
Intel processors provide advanced levels of power, performance,
scalability and reliability for servers and workstations by extending
the Intel architecture to new levels of enterprise computing performance.
The Intel Xeon processor is designed for dual-processor server and
workstation platforms. Featuring innovative technologies such as
the Intel Netburst microarchitecture, and Hyper-Threading technology,
Intel Xeon processor-based systems offer excellent platform dependability,
value and versatility.
“Small to medium enterprises today turn to IT to optimize
business processes, reduce costs and increase productivity and profitability.
They need solutions that are cost effective and tailored to meet
their requirements, which is why Intel has teamed with Oracle to
offer a one stop answer to their needs through the optimization
of the Oracle Collaboration Suite on the Intel platform” said
Ferhad Patel, Intel’s Strategic Relations Manager for the
Middle East and Africa. “Intel based servers constitute the
building blocks that help drive results, playing a role in allowing
businesses to simplify processes and assist in saving time and capital
by combining infrastructure reliability and high scalability, to
deliver high levels of power and performance”
Oracle’s Technology Manager for the Middle East, Tarek Shahawi,
added that the Oracle Collaboration Suite is a leading solution
in reducing costs. “The Oracle Collaboration Suite optimizes
business processes with integrated workflow, versioning and approving
processes to improve margins and lower total cost of ownership by
merging applications into a single infrastructure.”
