200,000-square foot facility to meet regional demands of thriving energy sector

GE Energy has opened a new regional Center Of Excellence (COE) at the Jebel Ali Free Zone (JAFZ), which was today inaugurated by Jamal Majid bin Thaniah, Chief Executive Officer, Dubai Ports Authority. GE Energy’s rental business is the temporary and portable power unit of GE Energy, a US$19 billion global business specializing in power generation and energy delivery technology.

GE Energy’s rental business will now carry out its regional operations from its new 200,000-square foot COE, a specialized facility designed to serve the business’s smaller regional hubs. Its expanded capabilities will enable GE Energy to meet the increased energy demands of the region which have contributed to the business’s growth. The short-term power solutions provider, which has been serving the Africa, India and the Middle East (AIM) region since 2001 from its previous centre, also located at JAFZ, continues to grow and expand its business.

Extending his congratulations to GE Energy on its move into its new facility, bin Thaniah said: “We wish to congratulate one of the world’s leading energy services providers on its new hub at JAFZ, which is home to a growing portfolio of local, regional and international companies. We value the long-standing relationship we share with GE and are confident it will continue to prosper in the years ahead.”

“We have spared no effort in providing companies such as GE with the ideal environment for growth and success by operating efficiently and cost-effectively from a strategically located warehousing, distribution and industrial hub, which provides access to more than two billion consumers.”

Thanking bin Thaniah for the government’s continued cooperation and support was Luis M. Ramírez, President and General Manager of GE Energy's rental business, who said: “Demand for temporary power has been rising steadily due to the rapid development of the region and GE Energy rentals strategy has always focused on positioning itself as a turn key solutions provider to our regional customers. The introduction of the JAFZ COE brings us one step closer towards operational and service excellence.”

Ramírez continued to say: “JAFZ continues to be the optimum choice for global service providers - its unique location and service support quality provides a platform for growth and success.”

The new COE will serve as the company’s one-stop site for handling the rentals of its products including 5kW to 22.8 MW generator sets, 20-ton air conditioners to 1,000-ton water-cooled chillers, pumps, fuel tanks, transformers, switchgears and loadbanks. GE Energy’s range of rental services encompasses products and solutions designed to serve energy needs in response to natural disasters, climate control delivery, power needs of the entertainment industry and temporary power demands arising from utility shutdowns and seasonal peak energy demand periods. The company also provides 24-hour support services through a customer helpline.

Currently, GE Energy’s rental business operates two such facilities in the region, in Dubai and Dammam, but plans to set up additional centers in order to meet the increased demand for temporary power.

“We provide support to our global customers locally and in order to fulfill our commitments and continue to build on the brand’s strength, it is vital that we include strategically located centers such as the new JAFZ facility to carry out our quality services,” added Ramírez.
