Part of Paradigm’s commitment to provide its customers
with a broad range of high performance computing
Paradigm, the premier
provider of advanced petroleum geoscience and drilling technology
to the oil and gas exploration and production industry, and Silicon
Graphics announce that Paradigm’s new epos 3.0-based
product suite is now available on the Intel Itanium 2
processor-based SGI Altix system.
The latest versions of Paradigm’s industry-leading solutions,
running on the recently released epos 3.0 data management and interoperability
integration framework, offer complete workflows, from seismic data
processing and imaging, through interpretation and visualization,
to reservoir characterization, petrophysics, well planning and
drilling, in a single environment. The epos 3.0 framework enhances
personal productivity through seamless application workflows, comprehensive
data integration and a unified 3D visualization canvas.
The SGI Altix family combines SGI's supercomputing architecture
with Intel Itanium 2 processors and the Linux operating system.
The SGI Altix 3000 platform boasts the combined speed of SGI's
shared-memory NUMAflex architecture with the power of Intel
Itanium 2 microarchitecture to create an open-source Linux environment.
The SGI Altix family is designed to help SGI customers in the oil
and gas market master their toughest problems and achieve breakthrough
results with a 64-bit scalable architecture.
Duane Dopkin, Senior VP Technologies at Paradigm, said, “The
availability of our epos 3.0-based products on the Altix platform
is a natural outcome of our commitment to support the broadest
range of high performance computing for our customers. The power
of our leading-edge solutions on the Altix server allows us to
exploit the 64-bit memory addressing of this scalable Linux solution,
providing our customers with greater flexibility in deploying our
E&P technologies, and more productivity in executing them”.
”SGI is pleased to join Paradigm in announcing the release
of epos on the Altix platform, the first major commercial seismic
processing suite to be offered on this award-winning system,” said
Bill Bartling, Senior Director, Market Strategy at SGI. ”The
combination of Paradigm's leading seismic data management, processing,
modeling and visualization software with SGI's record-setting Linux
computational system sets an improved standard for depth imaging
and enables our customers to meet their challenges of imaging complex
subsurface geometries in their prospects and oilfields with unprecedented
speed and accuracy”.
“The Itanium 2 processor has become increasingly significant
for the energy upstream market, due to its large memory addressability
for increasingly demanding seismic imaging, visualization and reservoir
simulations,” said Dick Bland, Worldwide Energy Industry
Director for Intel Corporation. “Its affordable price and
high performance make it a logical choice for E&P companies.”
