HP enhances the American International School in Egypt 's technology offerings for students and teachers
To satisfy the increasing demand for access to information and technology whenever and wherever for students, the American International School in Egypt (AIS), established in 1990, selected HP to create a state-of-the-art Information Technology system to serve all the varied requirements of its campuses and to provide its students and community with vastly improved technology capabilities.
HP has deployed over 25 HP ProLiant servers, along with 60 wireless notebooks for AIS's administrative staff and teachers. It has also installed 650 HP Compaq D530 convertible minitower and D330 slimtower business desktop PCs for use in the school laboratories, libraries and management offices. These desktops will now cater to the many needs of the students and school community, and are integral to the daily administration of the School. For instance, online and electronic time-tabling and grading systems enable the teachers to communicate directly with the students and their parents. This provides a three-way flow of communication where feedback on classes, projects and assignments is regular and easily accessible to everyone.
“As part of our ongoing drive to provide educational facilities in the Middle East with top-notch IT solutions, we are pleased to offer HP's high quality portfolio of hardware, our competitive prices and local experience to the American School in Egypt . Our vast experience in the SMB education sector means that we are able to provide AIS with a system that is fully scalable for the future and is capable of growing with them, but at the same time will provide consistent return on IT investment through increased time and productivity,” said Hamid Hassan, Small and Medium Business Segment Manager, HP Midddle East.
As part of the technology implementation, the laboratories are served via HP Desktops so that students can log on and off with ease during lectures. Roaming profiles were assigned to all students on the campus, as part of the technology update, allowing access to internet services and educational software in the wireless labs providing practical working environments for students during lectures and study periods and avoiding the mess of cabling and maximising time efficiency for the students.
“As we move towards a wireless educational institute, students have become mobile. Instead of students walking to the labs, they have the freedom to learn anywhere and everywhere on campus, with the wonders of technology at their finger tips, “ said Tammam Abu Shakra, Advisor and Assistant to the Chairman, American International School in Egypt. “With HP, quality is guaranteed. We have revolutionised our campus and transformed it into an IT hub where students can learn using the most advanced technology tools, using their own personalised access card. The ‘wireless mobile lab' concept is very much in place at this point and we look forward to expanding this infrastructure and transforming the education curricula once we move to a larger campus, “ he added.
The challenge for HP was to provide AIS with several servers that were capable of running different software applications and at the same time connecting one area-wide network. Of key importance was to provide the best and highest level of security for the multiple servers being deployed, and to ensure that School administration and teachers personal files were not accessible to the general campus or students as a whole.
As the leading provider of IT solutions on a worldwide basis to the SMB market, the recent implementation of a state-of-the-art IT infrastructure at AIS is part of HPs latest initiative of rolling out Smart Solutions to deliver the most efficient combination of hardware, software, services and support that address business needs for increased productivity, lower costs and greater protection across the entire IT infrastructure and business applications.
As part of delivering an uncomplicated and affordable technology buying and owning experience, HP continues to provide AIS with comprehensive service, support and financing options, making technology easier to buy, install, use and maintain.
