BEA Systems unveils Liquid Computing vision aimed at improving IT responsiveness from 'Months to Minutes'

Posted: 26 June 2004

Revolutionary approach helps drive business integration to reduce complexity and fundamentally change economics of enterprise computing

BEA Systems, the world's leading application infrastructure software company, has introduced new products and services that support Liquid Computing, BEA's vision of a fluid enterprise that is designed to help change IT responsiveness from “months to minutes.”

Liquid Computing builds on a Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) foundation, with the ultimate objective of aligning enterprise interactions with real-time business goals to help companies become service-driven enterprises, ultimately achieving enterprise compatibility, active adaptability and breakthrough productivity.

The new vision was unveiled by Adam Bosworth, Chief Architect and Senior Vice President Advanced Development, BEA Systems, during his eWorld 2004 keynote address, that focused on the concept code-named Alchemy, designed to enable mobile workers to be as productive offline as they are online.

“The key to success in today's business lies in reducing complexity and costs, areas in which BEA has been a front-runner,” said Diyaa Zebian, Regional Manager, Middle East & Egypt, eSolutions BEA. “Liquid Computing is at the cutting edge of tech nology that will help enterprises achieve dramatic results in a short time, as a result of innovations created by BEA. Here in the Middle East where IT market is on a high growth track, businesses are increasingly willing to invest in Web-based enterprise solutions. We believe Liquid Computing will give them a powerful new tool to achieve higher productivity and profitability.”

The new products and services—BEA WebLogic Server Process Edition, and support services, which build upon and expand the industry-leading BEA WebLogic Platform, together with some tech nologies still in development, code-named Project QuickSilver and Alchemy —  help deliver on BEA's Liquid Computing vision, designed to help companies increase responsiveness and reduce IT complexity and costs.

SOAs provide the foundation to build a service-driven enterprise in order to ultimately achieve this vision of Liquid Computing.  SOAs are a set of principles and practices for sharing, reusing and orchestrating business logic represented as services or components. According to industry analyst firm Gartner Group, by 2008 more than 60 percent of enterprises will use SOA as the “guiding principle” when creating mission-critical applications and processes.

BEA is well positioned to help companies reduce IT complexity and costs through a service-oriented architecture, with a goal of achieving the vision of Liquid Computing. Only BEA has a unified, standards-based infrastructure and a simplified framework designed to quickly help customers build SOAs and create a shared-services environment.

BEA has already received strong support for its vision of Liquid Computing from various members of its partner community, including systems integrators, ISVs and platform vendors.  BEA's SOA strategy is to expose and integrate business processes more quickly so partners can easily incorporate business logic and processes to deliver unprecedented agility and flexibility to customers.

BEA Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq: BEAS ) is the world's leading application infrastructure software company, providing the enterprise software foundation for 14,000 customers around the world, including the majority of the Fortune Global 500. BEA and its WebLogic brand are among the most trusted names in business.

Headquartered in San Jose, Calif., BEA has 81 offices in 34 countries.
