Halliburton Indonesia receives three-year contract to provide distributed temperature sensing technology

Posted: 15 July 2004

Halliburton’s Indonesia subsidiary has been awarded a three-year contract to supply its OptoLogTM DTS - Fiber Optic distributed temperature monitoring system utilizing the proprietary FiberTube and fiber pushed down system technology on PT Caltex Pacific Indonesia’s Duri Steamflood project.

“This contract award enhances our position as a leader in the Asia Pacific market for fiber optic-based reservoir monitoring services,” said Dan Smith, country manager, Halliburton Energy Services Group, Production Optimization Division. “We believe it will be a spring board to further growth in the Asia Pacific region.”

In Duri steamflood producing wells, it is not possible to run conventional temperature logs without incurring high cost workovers due to the complexity of the completion design. In addition, the OptoLog DTS technology delivers a distributed temperature measurement that cannot be obtained with a conventional temperature log. Halliburton’s OptoLog DTS, FiberTube and fiber pushed down system technology provides a proven solution for collection of dynamic real-time distributed temperature sensing data.

In this case, the OptoLog DTS technology allows Caltex to improve management of their steamflood reservoir by using the data as part of its heat management plan.  In addition to applications in a steamflood reservoir, the DTS technology can also be used for downhole flow profiling, completion integrity monitoring and artificial lift optimization.

Halliburton, founded in 1919, is one of the world’s largest providers of products and services to the petroleum and energy industries.

The company serves its customers with a broad range of products and services through its Energy Services and Engineering and Construction groups.
