GE Energy supplying three gas turbines for petrochemical complex in Indonesia

Posted: 3 August 2004

Trans Pacific Petrochemical Indotama (TPPI) has awarded GE Energy a contract of more than US$21.5 million to supply three gas turbines and additional equipment for a petrochemical project in Tuban, East Java, Indonesia.

The three MS5001 gas turbines will be installed at a new power plant that will provide electricity for an aromatic plant at the TPPI petrochemical complex currently under construction in Tuban.

Each of the new units will produce approximately 22 megawatts of power. Primary fuel will be gas from the aromatic plant, with diesel fuel oil as a backup.

The GE contract also includes gas turbine spare parts; three 15 KV, 50-hertz synchronous generators; air filter houses; inlet and exhaust ducts; air coolers; gas turbine enclosures rated 85 dBA; three control cabinets; a power management system for load sharing and shedding; fuel gas filtering skid; and a direct current system with batteries.

The gas turbine equipment will be manufactured primarily at GE Energy's facilities in Florence Italy, the home of GE Energy's oil and gas operations.

The project will follow a very tight and accelerated schedule, with the three gas turbines scheduled for shipment in September, October and November of 2004 and commercial operation set for the summer of 2005.

While this contract marks the company's first order with TPPI, GE Energy's oil and gas business previously has supplied equipment for a number of projects in Indonesia including the Tangguh LNG project, the Tunu North and South natural gas fields and the Peciko 4 gas processing plant.
