Easy Well Solutions grows internationally

Posted: 19 August 2004

Easy Well Solutions, the Norwegian specialist in petroleum reservoir completions, has created a global business development team with offices in Stavanger, Houston, Dubai and Kuala Lumpur.

This move builds on the company’s substantial success with the Swell Packer technology it has developed, reports EWS founder and owner Rune Freyer.

“We’ve made very positive progress on all fronts. Sales are good and we’ve penetrated new markets throughout the world. We have grown over the past year from three to 12 employees, and two more will be joining us soon.”

The Swell Packer technology which he developed in 2001 is based on the ability of rubber to expand when it is exposed to hydrocarbons.

When run into a well, this packer swells and isolates the annulus around the reservoir completion string. The solution saves both time and costs. It greatly improves producing mature reservoirs by efficient zonal isolation and enables many new completion techniques.

“All the major international operators around the world have now adopted the Swell Packer or decided to do so,” reports Mr Freyer. “We’re now taking the next step with a firm delivery agreement for up to 1 000 units – a fantastic breakthrough for us.”

Innovation

Mr Freyer attributes the success of the company to a strong focus on innovation and continued development of the Swell Packer technology.

In addition, EWS has pursued a clear growth strategy where the goal has been to secure entry to all significant markets around the world.

A global business development team has now been established through a series of new appointments. Representing a variety of oilfield and other expertise, this cross-functional group will aim to treble annual well installations both the next two years.

“Our most recent recruits have been responsible for portfolios adding up to in excess of USD 1 billion in their previous jobs,” notes Mr Freyer. “We’re already seeing very encouraging results from this commitment.”

New recruits

The new recruits include Gerry Kennedy, Neale Carter and T Allan Wilkins and Ken Andrus as business development managers for Africa, the Middle East and India, North America and Asia Pacific respectively. Steve Kent has been named marketing manager for the company.

Mr Kennedy (37) comes from a position as global business development manager for Schlumberger Cementing Services. Based in Dubai, he will contribute particular regional knowledge of Africa as well as zonal isolation and global business development skills.

Aged 36, Mr Carter was Middle East business development manager for smart well completion systems at Weatherford Completions systems. He will contribute strong well completion expertise as well as regional business development knowledge.

Mr Wilkins (51) comes from a position as region manager for Weatherford Completion Systems in North America. He will provide strong general well completion and regional business development expertise.

Formerly Asia Pacific business development manager for Schlumberger Sensa, Mr Andrus (54) will provide broad well completion expertise, smart well experience and regional business development knowledge.

Based in Dubai, Mr Kent (37) previously headed business development in Asia Pacific for Weatherford Completion Systems and has been with EWS for six months.
