PSL Energy Services

Posted: 31 August 2004

Oil and gas services company PSL Energy Services are currently executing their first hydraulic work-over operation in the Norwegian sector of the North Sea.

The Portlethen-based firm has been contracted by ConocoPhillips to carry out the work at the Tor field (2/4 E) in the Greater Ekofisk Area.

PSL’s Dolsnub 3, which has a 460,000lbs pulling capacity and is one of the company’s fleet of modular hydraulic work-over units, has been mobilised to undertake the four-week operation.

Almost all producing wells become less efficient in time due to mechanical problems within the well or depletion of oil and gas reservoirs and eventually require a work-over.

The 2/4 E-16 well is a traditional oil producer but has been shut-in for some time. This is the first opportunity that has occurred to carry out remedial work and when the HWO operation is complete it is forecast the well will increase the production rate achieved prior to the shut-in.

PSL have been tasked to remove the Christmas tree, pull out the old completion, and scrape and clean the well bore. This will be followed with the installation of a new completion and subsequent installation of the new Christmas tree.

PSL Energy Services managing director, Mr Doug Duguid said: “Our Dolsnub 3 is an ideal technical and cost-effective option for returning the E-16 well to full production and this project could lead to securing similar work in the Norwegian HWO market.

“The Dolsnub 3 benefits from stand alone, skidding and modular capabilities which offers many advantages over traditional intervention methods such as a jack-up.

“We are delighted to have secured this work and it gives us the opportunity to showcase the versatility of our hydraulic work-over fleet as a competitively placed long-term well servicing solution on the Tor and other such platforms.”
