Earth Decision Sciences Version 2.1 Suite

Posted: 14 September 2004

On 30 September Earth Decision Sciences will start shipping the long awaited Version 2.1. Recognized as an industry leader in reservoir modeling software, the original endeavor has concentrated on the delivery unique and patented technology.

During the past summer, the hiring of a new executive team, consultants, developers, and sales personnel gave rise to a substantial increase in demand for the Earth Decision Sciences suite of products. As a result, Version 2.1 has been designed specifically to improve usability and to add many of the enhancements that our clients have requested. One of our goals is to make the interpretation task easier and more intuitive for both the novice and expert user. Functionality has been enhanced and new modules have been developed by using a geology-focused workflow all within an integrated environment.

Enhanced usability
For better project/data management, data can be shared across projects. For a secure, multi-user environment, concurrent access to the same project is controlled and appropriate security mechanisms are in place. Objects can be sorted in user created folders and properties retain their range. For better geological definition, information about the geologic nature of the objects can be stored in dedicated folders and the stratigraphic column defining stratigraphic sequences of intervals or zones can be assigned to wells.

Enhanced modeling capabilities
Thickness maps and isochore maps are computed and erosion locations are controlled from a given set of horizons, markers and pieces of horizons. Local interactive editing of the horizon fault contacts has been added, quality control of the fault throw, and quality control of the fault sealing capabilities are now possible through the construction of juxtaposition maps. The pillar gridding technique has been enhanced to further minimize deformation of the grid cells at the end of the pillars while still honoring the fault topology. In the case of complex structures, this feature allows for the industry’s most accurate model for reservoir simulation models. For property modeling, a new algorithm for generic object modeling has been introduced where the user can draw the 3D templates of the objects to simulate.

Enhanced interpretation capabilities
With a focus on usability, we are introducing a new user interface to help simplify interpretation. New interpretation capabilities include faster probe manipulation, full volume rendering in probes, and multi-attribute horizon tracking with improved interpretation controls. A new seismic filter pre-processing for fault extraction has been added to the structural modeling framework when validating or updating an existing model.

Enhanced uncertainty offering
Risk Assessment has been made easier through the creation of models, enhancement of structural simulation, correlation of mean uncertainty and PVT parameters, average properties in the Uncertainty Viewer, histograms and crossplots of volumes, new Excel plots and reporting, uncertainty cube and maps and enhancements to connectivity.

Enhanced Drilling Planning
Using our workflow interface, basic target management, well planning and platform planning are now improved.

Side track planning now includes path uncertainty, collision risk analysis, editable path and location, improved control of well trajectory planning. Enhanced reach analysis and cost models can be created quickly and easily.
