Paradigm New university Petroleum Geoscience Centre get sponsorship

Posted: 06 October 2004

Paradigm™, provider of advanced petroleum geoscience and engineering technology to the oil and gas exploration and production industry, is sponsoring the new Petroleum Geoscience and Technology Facility at the University of Manchester .

One of the leading Earth Science research departments in the UK , and rated "Excellent" for teaching in the most recent HEFCE review, Manchester has recently expanded its petroleum research and teaching capabilities to meet the demand from the oil industry.

Paradigm’s new epos 3 data management and interoperability integration framework, which offers significant improvements in workflow efficiency and personal productivity, has been installed for teaching and research purposes on a Linux® cluster, in a new dedicated teaching lab consisting of 15 workstations.  These new facilities are part of the continuing expansion at Manchester , which offers M.Sc. degrees in Petroleum Geoscience, as well as postgraduate and postdoctoral research.

Access to the latest 3D seismic volume visualization and interpretation software from Paradigm will complement the range of seismic, well log interpretation, reservoir engineering and visualisation software packages available at Manchester .  The Petroleum Geoscience and Technology Facility is  linked directly to the Manchester Visualization Centre in the Manchester Computing Centre, one of the UK’s premier computing facilities, providing  a virtual reality environment for research and teaching.

Paradigm have agreed to donate licenses for a wide range of its leading products, including the VoxelGeo® volume-based seismic interpretation system, Reservoir Navigator™ 3D Canvas, 3D Propagator™ autotracker, Seismic Data Attributes package, SolidGeo® structural framework model building solution and iMap™ geophysical mapping tool.

Dr Jonathan Redfern from the Petroleum Geoscience and Technology Facility said, “This generous donation by Paradigm allows Manchester to continue to expand its Petroleum Geoscience teaching and research capability. We will be able to use this software both on taught courses and in our current active research areas sponsored by international oil companies.  The support from Paradigm by providing sponsorship and thus access to leading- edge software will allow Manchester ’s expanding PGT facility to achieve its goal of being a centre of excellence in petroleum research.”

Steve Hunt, Managing Director at Paradigm EAME, added, “Our contribution to the University of Manchester is another step in our ongoing support of top research and teaching institutions in our areas of interest. We at Paradigm believe that training the geoscientists of tomorrow is of paramount importance, and we are proud to be in the forefront of that effort.”
