Cisco Systems Bid to capture small and medium business market

Posted: 06 October 2004

Cisco Systems recently unveiled for the first time in the Middle East its new line of solutions designed for small and medium-sized business. These include Cisco integrated services routers, the industry’s first routers to deliver secure, wire-speed data, voice, video and other advanced services to small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) and enterprise branch offices as well as to service providers for managed network services offerings.

Also unveiled are new entry-level extensions to the Cisco Catalyst 4500 Series of modular switches, including the new Supervisor II-Plus-TS which help allow for integrated connectivity to servers, wireless access points, IP phones, printers or users; the Cisco Network Assistant which offers centralized management of Cisco SMB - Class networks to help simplify deployment and ongoing maintenance; and the new Catalyst 4948 fixed switches optimized for server aggregation.

These solutions fall in-line with Cisco’s vision for the evolution of networks to systems, a paradigm known as the Intelligent Information Network (IIN). The IIN is a roadmap which Cisco has developed to help its customers achieve their evolving business objectives and to underscore the exponential value realized from their telecommunications network, realizing lower cost of ownership, faster speed to applications and services, and consistent framework for smooth integration of new services.

"The introduction of integrated services routers that support secure, wire-speed delivery of concurrent data, voice and video services represents a move towards integrated systems in Cisco’s Intelligent Information Network vision," said Mark De Simone, Vice President, Middle East and Africa for Cisco Systems. “Cisco's integrated services routers will help many organizations in the Middle East and North Africa build more efficient and robust IP networks which will help them to achieve their business objectives.”

Customers of all sizes are seeking opportunities to converge best-of-class, data, voice and security services into a single system that speeds the deployment of network services, while helping them protect, optimize and grow their businesses. With the industry’s most comprehensive voice and security services, directly embedded and integrated into these new platforms, Cisco’s portfolio helps provide the performance, resilience and flexibility needed to add new applications easily and cost-effectively. In line with the Cisco SMB-Class and Business Ready Branch solutions programs, these solutions are designed to help businesses build secure, reliable and flexible networks that scale as their companies grow.

Cisco developed SMB - Class to offer integrated solutions which suit the needs of SMB and mid-sized customers, meeting their current technology requirements as well as providing a framework for the development of new technologies in the future,” said Mark De Simone, Vice President Middle East and Africa . “The new suite of Catalyst s witching solutions together with Cisco’s integrated services routers, further proves Cisco’s commitment to these markets, and will mak e it even easier and more cost-effective for SMBs and mid-sized businesses to build secure, reliable, and flexible networks.”
