Total Hits Gas Goldmine in Bolivia
Posted: 13 October 2004
French oil company Total has found a new and rich natural-gas field in southeastern Bolivia, a discovery that could increase Bolivia's reserves by 20 per cent, the Bolivian Information Agency (ABI) said in a report.
The report estimated that the field which was found between south east of Chuquisaca and east of Santa Cruz, may contain up to 280 million cubic meters of gas.
It is less than that of the gas field in Tarija department which was considered as the second largest one of South America.
The Mining and Hydrocarbon Ministry revealed that exploration started a year ago, and it is believed drilling will reach a depth of 5,500 meters. Bolivia has natural gas reserves of 55 trillion cubic feet, the second largest in South America after Venezuela .
