ExxonMobil Lube Technology selected by Petronas

ExxonMobil Research and Engineering Company (EMRE) announced recently that PETRONAS Penapisan (Melaka) Sdn Bhd has selected a complete production train of ExxonMobil's lube technologies for their grassroots catalytic lube basestock plant at the PETRONAS refinery at Melaka, Malaysia
The plant will convert 16,000 BPD of low sulfur waxy atmospheric residue to 6,500 BPD of primarily Group III lube products. Operation is scheduled to begin mid-2007.
To meet increasing market demand for high quality lubricants, finished oil blenders are using more Group II and III basestocks, defined by their high viscosity index and excellent performance quality. Basestock manufacturers are, in turn, looking for ways to increase the production of these particular products. A prominent share of these manufacturers have selected ExxonMobil technology because it provides a full suite of integrated processes that cost-effectively produce very high quality basestocks.
