ParadigmBest Data Management Award

Posted: 27 October 2004

Paradigm, the provider of advanced petroleum geoscience and engineering technology to the oil and gas exploration and production industry, has won the “Best Data Management Award” at the third annual World Oil Awards dinner, sponsored by World Oil magazine. The black-tie gala dinner, attended by close to 400 industry leaders, was held in Houston, Texas on October 14th.

Recognizing that geoscientists work with a variety of applications and data sources, Paradigm introduced the epos 3 distributed data management and interoperability integration framework early this year. One of the first new concepts in geoscience data management in 10 years, epos 3 is multi-platform, multi-vendor and multi-disciplinary by design, taking into account the dynamic nature of data in the modern energy corporation, and the increasing demand for cross-disciplinary collaboration, everywhere from the field to visualization theatres.

A next-generation solution in response to customer demand

Based on state-of-the-art technologies, epos 3 provides unprecedented workflow efficiencies and enhanced personal productivity through integration on three levels ─ data, applications and visualization.

Phil Neri, Vice President Technology, Interpretation, Earth & Reservoir Modeling and Drilling Solutions, said, “Paradigm developed epos 3 to assist its clients in dealing with the inherent heterogeneity of data in the oil and gas E&P industry. Epos’ middleware-based interoperability decouples applications from repositories, enabling users to work simultaneously with data repositories from multiple vendors. Avoiding the entrapments of the single monolithic database, epos is more flexible to implement and offers a lower cost of ownership.”

Regarding the comprehensive integration supported by the epos 3 infrastructure, Neri added, “Incorporating a common 3D visualization canvas as part of the integration process further differentiates Paradigm's unique integration philosophy. Since its release early this year, epos 3 has generated a strong response, focusing on many new opportunities for broad, multi-disciplinary workflows.”
