Saudi Arabian Texaco, PNZ Staff complete intensive training
Posted: 17 November 2004
Personnel from the Marine Division and Safety, Health, Environment and Security of SAT’ s Mina Saud terminal in Kuwait recently completed intensive training to ensure compliance with the provisions of the mandated International Ship and Port Facility (ISPS) Security Code.
“The training focussed on all aspects of marine- related security, including terrorism, piracy, ship security, handling sensitive information, familiarity with governing international shipping, security conventions, and governmental and private sector responsibilities and tools. Ten SAT employees took and passed the Port Facility and Security Officer’s Course”, said officials.
SAT’s Mina Saud Terminal is an ISPS-compliant facility and was certified by the Kuwait government on June 26, 2004. The deadline for full implementation at ports around the world was July 1, 2004, in line with United Nations International Maritime Organization requirements.
The objective of the ISPS code is to establish an international framework and the necessary mechanisms for cooperation between contracting governments and their agencies, local administrations and the shipping and port industries to detect and assess security threats and take preventive measures against security incidents affecting ships and port facilities used in international trade. Carrying out the requirements entails designating and training personnel for each ship, port facility and shipping company to prepare and to put into effect the security plans that will be approved for each ship and port facility.
