Legal consultants Hugh Fraser International have established a new unit which will focus on assisting North Sea companies looking to expand in to the Gulf states.
The Dubai-based firm - led by Scottish lawyer Hugh Fraser - specialises in providing corporate and commercial legal advice and brokering joint ventures for North Sea companies developing their business interests in the United Arab Emirates and the Gulf Region.
HFI’s Dubai Commercial Legal Services Unit will be spearheaded by two new appointments who will provide a bridgehead for UK, Scandinavian and Dutch companies planning to internationalise in the UAE and neighbouring countries.
Hady Al Kady joins HFI after working for more than eight years in corporate and commercial law in Lebanon and the UAE. Mr Al Kady is a Lebanese attorney-at-law who will provide expert advice on corporate structures, property transactions and intellectual property.
Arti Sangar joins HFI from one of the largest indigenous legal practices in the UAE. She established and built a thriving practice centred in Dubai’s Jebel Ali Free Zone and has represented clients such as Nissan and Walmart.
Mr Al Kady and Mrs Sangar will focus on providing commercial legal advice specifically relating to the UAE and project managing legal assignments involving other jurisdictions in the Gulf region.
The new unit will specialise in assisting North Sea companies setting up subsidiary branches and establishing free zone companies in UAE. It will also provide advice on foreign ownership, trademarks and patents and commercial property transactions.
Managing partner, Hugh Fraser, formed HFI in 2003 after spending seven years as Head of Legal for John Wood Group, during which time he supervised a wide range of international contracts and projects in more than 40 countries.
Fraser said: “These appointments bring a wealth of international legal and commercial experience to HFI’s project team and will greatly enhance our ability to provide bridgeheads for North Sea companies seeking to expand in to the UAE and neighbouring regions.
“We are the only legal firm based in Dubai which is focused on supporting the internationalisation of North Sea companies in the Middle East and our local knowledge and contacts can streamline entry in to the lucrative Gulf markets and provide a comfort factor for companies opening up in new territories for the first time.
“There is an overwhelming demand for North Sea skills and technologies, especially in production optimisation, asset integrity and specialist environmental services, and the five new joint ventures we have recently brokered are testimony to that.
“Both Hady and Arti are gifted lawyers who have a broad experience of growth areas in UAE, including inward investment projects, intellectual property protection, employment law issues for senior executive relocating to the region and real estate transactions."
