HRH Geological Services

Gravitas will save clients up to £10,000 for every well drilled, says company founder

An integrated software suite, Gravitas, was launched this week by Aberdeen-headquartered HRH Geological Services. Already adopted by French oil and gas giant, Total, Gravitas, says the company, is the only software in the world that can collect well site data, produce geological logs and generate reports on oil and gas exploration wells, all in one specialist suite of programs.

“Gravitas was developed in close co-operation with oil and gas major, Total,” says HRH founder, David Harrison. “It comprises three key software components that ensure integrity, accuracy and facilitate data manipulation and presentation about wells anywhere in the world. Well data reporting is a major challenge for oil and gas companies, and Gravitas guarantees reliable data collection with consistent log and report generation in a single integrated software suite.”

Information gathered during the drilling of oil and gas wells can come from up to a dozen different sources, in as many formats, so geologists historically have to work on the various data collected and produce some kind of standardisation once the well is drilled and the geologists have left the well site. “This can take weeks after the well has been drilled and is expensive in terms of geologists’ time. We reckon that Gravitas will save clients up to £10,000 for every well drilled, and for a company drilling hundreds of wells a year this will translate into a saving of millions of pounds,” says Harrison.

HRH is already demonstrating “the power and flexibility” of Gravitas to a number of international oil and gas companies across Europe and the UK which have expressed interest in the software.

“We try to keep a step ahead of the competition,” says David Harrison, “and we work closely with clients to identify key features and innovations that will give them a competitive edge in the drilling and exploration business. Total is now seeing standardisation of its drilling logs and end-of-well reports internationally, as their geologists are dealing with the same software across the globe. Setting and adhering to the same corporate standards with well site data is a real step forward for oil companies. We aim to set the benchmark for the global oil and gas industry with Gravitas.”

HRH says that around 75 per cent of the geological logs from North Sea oil and gas wells that are lodged with the UK government’s Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) are produced by HRH’s proprietary Winlogâ log drawing software.

Once selected by the client, HRH specialists work with the client to customise the templates for reports and logs, and train the client’s in-house team to produce the accuracy, reliability and consistency that Gravitas provides, according to Harrison . A specially tailored version of Winlog is integrated with two other HRH software modules to make up Gravitas: WinDART for data collection and Repgen for report generation.
