Chevron Texaco, alliance for Advanced Energy Solutions

Posted: 24 November 2004

Los Alamos National Laboratory, operated by the University of California, and ChevronTexaco Corporation announced plans to establish an alliance to develop a range of mutually beneficial technologies. This alliance will assist Los Alamos in its Department of Energy mission to advance the national, economic and energy security of the United States and to promote scientific and technological innovation in support of that mission.

Don Cobb, deputy laboratory director, acting on behalf of Los Alamos director G. Peter Nanos, and Donald Paul, vice president and chief technology officer at ChevronTexaco, have signed an agreement establishing the Alliance for Advanced Energy Solutions at Los Alamos National Laboratory.

ChevronTexaco and Los Alamos will develop energy industry solutions derived from DOE and Department of Defense technologies. The initial focus will be on advanced well systems’ solutions. Future opportunities in broader energy industry solutions will be evaluated.

“Over a period of time, ChevronTexaco and Los Alamos have cooperated in a variety of projects, including Radio Frequency Telemetry and Sensor Technology for collection and transmission of oil well data and acoustic interferometry and are now entering into a strategic alliance for increasing cooperation. A number of areas of interest have been identified that will be involved in this cooperation,” said Paul.

Charryl Berger, director of energy programs at Los Alamos added, "Alliances such as this one between Los Alamos National Laboratory and ChevronTexaco are fundamental to the discovery of breakthrough technologies that help address the energy security challenges of our nation."

The alliance's manager will be Manuel Gonzalez, senior engineering advisor at ChevronTexaco Energy Technology Co.

The Alliance for Advanced Energy Solutions is the most recent relationship formed as part of ChevronTexaco’s strategy to develop unique, new research and educational structures in the energy industry.

ChevronTexaco has recently joined with the University of Tulsa in the Center of Research Excellence in production fluid flow, the University of Southern California to form the Center of Interactive Smart Oilfield Technologies , and the Colorado School of Mines in the Center of Research Excellence in Earth Science.
