Posted: 1 December 2004
Energy Week – which includes the staging of the fourth ‘Excellence In Energy’ awards, the Middle East’s annual energy industry ‘Oscars’, and the Oil Barons’ Ball, the regional industry’s key annual social event – has won the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, President, Department of Civil Aviation, Government of Dubai and the Chairman of the Emirates Group.
The dual events, which will be held at the Nad Al Sheba Golf & Racing Club on December 15th, are expected to attract over 1,000 of the region’s top energy executives.
“As Dubai is now firmly positioned as the preferred venue for major industry gatherings, I am happy to lend my support to these events,” said HH Sheikh Ahmed. “ Dubai is also a keen exponent of excellence in all fields and we support these awards which serve to continually reward and raise the benchmark in an industry which has long been the backbone of regional economies.”
The ‘Excellence In Energy’ awards and the Oil Barons’ Ball are organised by Pipeline Magazine, the Pan Arab world’s foremost monthly publication for the oil and gas sectors.
“Sheikh Ahmed’s patronage is a considerable boost to Energy Week, which is gaining momentum each year,” said Eileen Michael, Publisher, Reflex Publish M.E. FZ LLC, which produces Pipeline. “The ‘Excellence In Energy’ awards have grown in stature over the past four years and this year two new categories have been added following feedback from the industry.”
The two new awards include: Best Sub-Contractor and Best Company In Project Management. Other award categories cover: Best Company; Best Company For Health & Safety; Best Company For Environment; Best Company For Industry Technology; Best Company For Information Technology; Best Industry Services Company; Industry Innovator and Project Of The Year.
The Pipeline ‘Excellence In Energy’ awards are being sponsored by key technology and information service providers to the oil and gas sectors, including Intel, HP, Microsoft and Schlumberger.
Meanwhile, the audience at the 2004 Oil Barons’ Ball, which follows the awards, will witness the crowning of the 2004 Middle East Oil Baron.
“This is the person judged by his peers to be an outstanding individual from within the Middle East energy industry,” said Michael.
Corporate tables at the 2004 Oil Barons’ Ball, which seat 10, are priced at US $950, single tickets are US $125.
The Oil Barons’ Ball is backed by the International Association of Drilling Contractors, the Project Management Institute and the Regional Clean Seas Organisation (RECSO), formerly the Gulf Association of Oil Companies Mutual Aid Organisation, the regional oil and shipping industry co-operative organisation, which functions under the concept of mutual aid at times of marine oil spills. RECSO’s 12-strong membership includes oil and shipping majors throughout the Middle East .
