Posted: 26 January 2005
Engineering consultancy to the oil and gas industry, ALTRA Energy Limited, has enhanced its international expansion with the establishment of a new division in Norway .
ALTRA Energy Norge AS has opened in Stavanger , offering an operations and technical management consultancy to Norwegian companies operating in the North Sea .
The creation of ALTRA Energy Norge launches ALTRA’s first permanent base outside Aberdeen , although the company has undertaken several long term contracts in regions including the Former Soviet Union, The Middle East, The Americas, Europe and Asia .
ALTRA Energy Norge AS is headed up by managing director Graeme Dick. A fluent Norwegian speaker, Mr Dick joins ALTRA with more than 20 years experience in the oil and gas industry, mainly with BP in Aberdeen and Stavanger . Most recently he was engaged as an operations consultant with Aker Kvaerner Operations.
ALTRA’s Stavanger base has two core staff and the company intends to expand through recruitment over the next 2 years. The initial focus will be on operations management and production optimisation and ALTRA will then move into concept evaluation and in particular floating production systems. In the initial period ALTRA will use the competence and experience in Aberdeen to provide concept evaluation services to the Norwegian market.
ALTRA’s Managing Director, Peter Chadbourn said: “The focus for ALTRA Energy Norge will be on providing assistance to a new and growing sector in the Norwegian oil and gas market – those companies looking for help in operations management and production optimisation.
“Graeme’s vast knowledge of the industry as a whole and his experience of the Norwegian sector in particular means he is ideally placed to drive the business forward and deliver effective solutions to the industry.
Mr Chadbourn added: “Our experience of the Norwegian sector led to us quickly to recognise a significant gap in this niche market and we have acted accordingly to serve its needs. ALTRA’s expertise and experience in the area of floating production systems will make a valuable contribution to the development of marginal fields in the currently underdeveloped Norwegian sector.
Mr Dick explained why he believes ALTRA can succeed in Norway . “The Norwegian oil industry is moving into a new phase. Independent oil companies with exciting new ideas on field development and operation are moving into Norway . There is a focus on development of small marginal fields that will require innovative solutions to be declared economic. The larger fields are preparing for late life operation and require innovation and new thinking to extend field life. ALTRA can offer expertise in concept evaluation and in operations that can contribute immensely to the safe and cost effective development and operation of the Norwegian fields.”
