Posted: 02 February 2005
BP Singapore officially opened its MoW (Most of the World) Mega Data Centre at the SingTel Telecommunications Complex on 26 January 2005.
The MoW Mega Data Centre is a world-class (i.e. tier 4) facility, one of three new major BP data centres globally and will provide BP’s businesses within the whole region with an improved quality of service and enhanced disaster recovery capability, thanks to a 10 gig/sec link to a mirror facility. The second Mega Data Centre is in Europe and plans are well advanced to locate the third in North America .
Locally, with the office move from BP Tower to Keppel Bay Tower in mid 2005, all current digital infrastructure will be moved to the new Data Centre.
Mr John Leggate, CBE, CIO and Group Vice President, BP plc said: “We are always looking for opportunities to enhance productivity and the consolidation of servers into the Mega Data Centre will help our businesses in Asia to move at even greater pace.
“ Singapore has a richness of talent from many different cultures and I am truly impressed with the innovation and forward thinking I see here. In many ways it is the commercial crossroads of the world.”
Mr Teo Ming Kian, Chairman of the Singapore Economic Development Board, said: “We are pleased that BP, one of the largest companies in the world, has chosen Singapore as the location for its Mega Data Centre servicing ‘Most of the World’. BP’s decision is testament to Singapore ’s reputation as a trusted and reliable hub for IT and business activities.”
