Roxar Opens Asia Pacific Headquarters in Kuala Lumpur

Posted: 02 February 2005

Roxar, a leading technology solutions provider to the upstream oil and gas industry opened its new regional headquarters for Asia Pacific in Kuala Lumpur , Malaysia . The opening ceremony was attended by Roxar CEO, Sandy Esslemont, the Norwegian Ambassador to Malaysia , His Excellency Arild Eik, and senior executives from the Oil and Gas industry in the Asia Pacific Region.

The office, currently home to over 20 staff - and likely to rise to over 30 in the short-term - will service a rapidly growing client base throughout the Asia Pacific region and will be supporting Roxar’s other offices in the region, including Jakarta, Perth, Ho Chi Minh City and Beijing. The new Regional head office, located adjacent to the PETRONAS Twin Towers , demonstrates Roxar’s belief in Kuala Lumpur being the major hub for Exploration & Production (E&P) companies operating in South East Asia

Over the last 12 months, Roxar has dramatically increased its presence in the Asia Pacific region through high-profile contracts, such as multi-million dollar software and services contracts with Malaysian oil giant, PETRONAS Carigali and PetroChina, the main unit of China National Petroleum Corporation. Other clients in the region include over 50 International and National E&P companies.

Said Roxar CEO, Sandy Esslemont, “The announcement signals Roxar’s determination to be the technology solutions partner of choice for oil and gas companies in the Asia Pacific Region who are challenged with raising recovery rates and maximizing reservoir performance. Our continued investment in local offices and local staff demonstrates our long-term commitment to the region and to our Asia Pacific customers. Our new Kuala Lumpur hub will be the engine for further expansion over the coming years.”

He continues, “A stronger regional presence will benefit our Asia Pacific customers, through greater focus on their needs and an unrivalled customer experience as we constantly seek to improve and integrate the solutions we offer and the quality of service and training we provide. The end result will be the attainment of one overriding goal – helping maximize reservoir production performance for E&P companies across Asia .”

Staff at the new office will be a combination of sales, administration and service support staff for Roxar’s software and instrumentation technologies. In addition to the Kuala Lumpur office opening, Roxar has recently opened an office in Ho Chi Minh City , Viet Nam .

Total offshore and onshore Asia Pacific oil and gas production in 2002 was three billion barrels and 301.7 billion cubic meters (bcm) respectively. Asia Pacific is the third most important region in the offshore oil and gas industry, behind the North Sea and the Gulf of Mexico , accounting for 13.6% of world oil production, 21.6% of gas production and 16.3% of total offshore expenditure. Offshore oil production is predicted to increase by 84% by 2008 and gas production by 116%.
