OE 2005 Drawing Industry’s Biggest Names

Posted: 02 February 2005

A star-studded line-up of oil majors and leading individuals from the global upstream sector are to take part in the Eastern Hemisphere's premier oil and gas show, Offshore Europe 2005.

With its ground-breaking exhibition and agenda-setting free conference attracting leading players from the E&P industry, OE 2005 is set to draw record crowds from around the world, reflecting its evolving global reach.

According to show organisers The Offshore Europe Partnership, industry majors including BP, Shell, Total E&P UK, ConocoPhillips, Gazprom and Petroleum de Venezuela, S.A. (PDVSA) are all confirmed as exhibitors, once again proving its standing at the top of the operators’ list of ‘must attend’ events. Big hitters from the contracting community include Halliburton, Schlumberger, Wood Group, Aker Kvaerner, AMEC, ADTI (Global SantaFe), Maersk Contractors, ABB and Vetco Gray.

OE 2005’s reputation is further vindicated by the top quality conference line-up. The conference theme is ‘Managing Mature Production: A Global Challenge’, with the much respected Chairman and CEO of Schlumberger, Andrew Gould, as Chairman.

Pushing The Frontiers

Mr Gould commented: “Offshore Europe has become a truly international gathering - the largest oil and gas event outside the USA. The conference forms a vital channel of communication between the key players in the industry, allowing them to exchange ideas, insight and information. Our industry has always risen to the challenges thrown at it and this conference is an opportunity to share ideas, challenges and understanding of these and other issues through a series of panel discussions, round tables and technical sessions.

“As an industry we need to push the frontiers of conventional wisdom in what can be achieved in mature basins, examining all issues related to production optimisation as we begin to produce "the second third" of the world's recoverable hydrocarbon resources. Solving the highly complex technical problems, finding new ways of working and new business models offers a fascinating future."

OE 2005 will once again be held in Aberdeen’s Exhibition and Conference Centre. Running between September 6-9, more than 26,000 key upstream personnel from around the world are forecast to attend.

Global Reach

Nik Rudge, Project Director, OE 2005, commented: “For over 30 years Offshore Europe has provided one of the most vibrant platforms for the E&P community to meet and debate the technology and issues that are shaping the global industry. As the industry has evolved, so has OE, adding new features and conference topics and attracting more visitors and exhibitors from across the entire E&P workflow. Moreover OE is now one of the few events that the operating companies themselves recognise as a key ‘must attend’. Show-on-show the amount of space taken by these companies’ increases, in recognition of the importance they place on OE.”

He added that the changed nature of ‘Offshore Europe’ had seen it evolve significantly beyond its North Sea/UKCS roots, attracting increased numbers of international visitors from 104 different countries around the world in 2003, a globally recognised conference chair and an ever more global conference remit. “Whilst ‘OE’ still signifies Offshore Europe, it also symbolises Offshore Excellence and Offshore Expertise and that is what the event is all about,” he said.

Digital Innovation In Action At OE 2005

OE 2005 is further underlining its reputation as the most innovative oil and gas event on the industry calendar through its continual development of new features at the show.

Perhaps the most exciting new development at Offshore Europe 2003 was the hugely successful launch of the Real Time Zone. Visited by 56% of attendees, the RTZ was a ‘show within a show’ dedicated to the technologies that facilitate the continued march towards the web-enabled Digital Oilfield. Previously seen as a ‘production’ event by the industry, the RTZ showed the exploration community why OE is an essential date in their industry calendar.

For 2005, whilst staying with a similar theme and building on the success of 2003, the RTZ has been re-branded as the Digital Energy Zone and looks set to be even more popular this time round, giving exhibition and conference goers an exclusive chance to immerse themselves in an online showcase for the next generation oil field.
