Qserv Announces New Training And Competency Manager

Posted: 09 February 2005

Qserv, the well and pipeline service company in Portlethen, Aberdeen has appointed Graham Meldrum as training and competence manager for its 135 staff.

Graham has worked in the oil well services industry for the past 28 years and in 1994 began to specialise in training, working as a training and competence instructor for a oilfield training company in Dundee where he focused on coiled tubing, hydraulic work-over and fluid pumping operations.

He then worked for three years as a training manager in Aberdeen before moving to Montrose to establish a well services training centre, as well as setting up International Well Control Forum (IWCF) courses for well intervention operations. Graham joins Qserv from a drilling company, where he was a well intervention engineer for hydraulic work-over operations. He has experience at designing and writing training manuals for well services operations and competence and is also actively involved in the IWCF and the International Coiled Tubing Association (ICOTA).

He said: “Qserv maintains and operates a stringent HSEQ Management System and since the company was founded there have been zero lost time injuries. My role is to further develop the quality training and competency systems at Qserv and co-ordinate all training within the company rather than outsourcing. My aim this year is to extend this internal training and offer courses to clients on well intervention. These will include both theory and practical training in wireline, coiled tubing, fluid pumping, pipeline and competence, as well as specially designed courses associated with well intervention well services operations.”

Ciaran Dreelan, well services director at Qserv, said: “I am delighted to welcome Graham to the team. His training expertise in the oil services sector is exactly what we are looking for. I am confident that he has what it takes to further develop the quality training we offer, which will benefit both staff and clients. His appointment positively complements the development of our training facilities this year on our Badentoy site, with the drilling and completion of our training well with typical North Sea type completion components. This will provide hands-on practical training for both experienced staff and new recruits, whilst developing their training and competence throughout.”

This family-owned, local business was founded in November 2001 and is focused on delivering results. It has an energetic and motivated team, headed up by managing director Tommy Dreelan and his three brothers. More than £15 million has been invested in the company, which provides local investment in jobs and equipment manufacture.
