IOD Scotland Award Success For QSERV

Posted: 23 February 2005

Ciaran Dreelan, director at north east-based well and pipeline service company Qserv, has been highly commended for the Institute of Directors ’ (IoD) ‘Young Director Award’.

The awards were announced at the Glasgow Science Centre on 17 th February. This is the first time the IoD in Scotland has staged a competition to recognise the efforts and achievements of directors operating in Scotland . Nominees were judged on the basis of the performance of their company, their achievements in personal and staff development, their contribution to the profession of directorship and their role in improving the company’s performance and impact on the life of communities in Scotland .

Ciaran, who started in the industry in 1991, has worked through a number of position including offshore operations, engineering and management roles and is one of the founding directors of Qserv. He is directly responsible for 70% of Qserv’s current workforce of 140 people and in 2004 there was a 100% increase in the well services staff. He has also identified requirements for new equipment and technology. In the past year Qserv has invested more than £5 million in new equipment designed by the firm and has invested in excess of £15 million in the past two years.

Ciaran said: “I am delighted with this accolade from the IoD in Scotland and would like to thank our exceptional team at Qserv for their dedication and commitment, which has been instrumental in getting the company where it is today. There is a healthy future ahead for Qserv and over the next 12 months I will look more towards the external environment of the company, with a clear focus on the market and clients’ needs. We will also continue to recruit more staff and develop the existing team.”

Tommy Dreelan, managing director of this family owned business, said: “In any organisation it is the work of the whole team that contributes to overall success. Ciaran has been the major player in moving us forward within three years of trading, to a quality service business employing 140 people in the north east of Scotland . Ciaran demonstrates great leadership, a high level of maturity and remarkable business acumen. Qserv would not be as successful as it currently is without Ciaran’s foresight, aptitude, ‘can do’ mentality and total dedication. We have high expectations for the future of both Ciaran and Qserv.”
