EMDAD signs AED86m contract to lay Jebel Ali-Dubai Airport aviation fuel pipeline

Posted: 09 March 2005

Emdad, the Jebel Ali-based aviation fuel venture, announced it had signed an AED 86 million contract with Dutco McConnell Dowell to lay a 58 kms long, 12-inch pipeline from its storage facility in the Free Zone to Dubai International Airport . The pipeline is expected to be completed and commissioned by January 2006.

The contract was signed at a ceremony held at Emirates General Petroleum Corporation (Emarat) headquarters in Dubai . The signatories from the companies involved in the Emdad joint venture included Rashid Hamad Al Shamsi, General Manager of Emarat and Chairman of Emdad, Mr. Patrick Romeo, Regional Vice President, Shell Aviation, Africa, Middle East, South and Central Asia and Director of Emdad, and Mr. Christian Tabet, Regional Business Development Manager at BP Middle East and Director of Emdad and Mr. Ian Gordon, Director Dutco McConnell Dowell.

Mr. Al Shamsi said: “This project reflects our ambition to develop our services in line with the demands of the growing markets of the region. We must ensure that our customers receive the best possible services. This will strengthen and consolidate Emarat’s business and secure its market leadership.”

Al Shamsi added that the pipeline would complete a further stage in the Emdad project, at the heart of which is the AED 46 million aviation fuel storage facility in the Jebel Ali Free Zone (JAFZ). The project will utilize the latest technology in equipment and system selection to ensure reliability and continuous monitoring of the pipeline transfer operation from JAFZ to Dubai International Airport . The new pipeline is expected to meet 50 per cent of the Airport’s projected need for aviation fuel in 2010.

Daily demand for aviation fuel at the Airport is projected to increase from 10,000 cubic metres to around 26,300 cubic metres in 2010 as a result of the mammoth expansion projects currently underway at the airport.

Mr. Ian Gordon said “Dutco McConnell Dowell, the successful contractor for the jet fuel pipeline work, are one of the leading pipeline contractors in the UAE. Dutco were pleased to have been awarded such a prestigious contract and look forward to a successful project for all the parties involved.”
