Posted: 09 March 2005
The key DCA Environment Report on Dubai International Airport , which will be used to develop a vision for future environmental protection policies at the award-winning airport, has been completed on schedule.
The 80 page document, produced by Emirates National Oil Company (ENOC) in collaboration with the Department of Civil Aviation, Government of Dubai (DCA), reviews the environmental activities of various Dubai International Airport business units, including operations, engineering services, cleaning and waste management, water and electricity management and emergency procedures.
The year-long research project outlines the current state of the environment at airport operations and will be used to produce a consultative document outlining ways of further improving existing high standards of environmental protection. A key feature of the report is that it will be made available to all interested parties through a variety of channels, including websites and email.
The report was formally presented to His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, President, Department of Civil Aviation, Government of Dubai and Chairman of the Emirates Group and Jamal Al Hai, Director of Strategy & Management Excellence, DCA, by ENOC Group Chief Executive and Board Member, Hussain Sultan.
HH Sheikh Ahmed said: “The production of this report is in line with the Dubai Government’s approach to increase transparency throughout its departments. The DCA is committed to leading in environment protection in all its operations and, by working with ENOC on this research, we are now in a position to build on the special environmental awareness procedures we already have in place.
“This extensive survey helps us highlight areas that can be improved and we will use this to meet our vision of building a better tomorrow by meticulously controlling the impact of all the airport operations and improving the environment.”
The research covered all the airport partners including the Emirates Flight Catering Company, Emirates Engineering, DNATA Airport Services and the joint industrial aviation fuel farm, as well as ENOC’s own operations.
It involved the Group’s Environmental, Health and Safety Compliance Department working with the 14 DCA departments and the DCA Environment Team in collating extensive data about operations and analysing information at facilities. This project was directed by Waddah Ghanem, Group EHS Compliance Manager, who acts as the environment advisor to DCA’s environment protection team.
Hussain Sultan said: “At ENOC we share HH Sheikh Ahmed’s vision for the environment and we have in place a dedicated Environmental, Health and Safety Compliance Department, charged with ensuring the highest standards at all our companies, joint ventures and partnerships.
“We highly appreciate the recognition of our reputation as a leader in environmental protection that HH Sheikh Ahmed and the DCA showed in involving the Group in this key project.
“ENOC Aviation, which has strong ties with the DCA, brought this initiative to the Group and, as the ‘Energy Partner of Choice’, we readily accepted the challenge to carry out this research.
“This has been an excellent example of achievement through partnership and we look forward to continuing to work with the DCA and other bodies to meet the highest standards for the environment.”
