Official Opening of Marine Fuels Terminal Will Underpin Fremantle Port for Future

Posted: 09 March 2005

BP Marine has officially opened its new home in North Fremantle on 8th March at a ceremony that marks a new era in BP’s support of the Port of Fremantle as an internationally competitive port.

BP Marine has completed a multi-million dollar relocation from its East Fremantle terminal, where it has serviced the bunkering needs of the Fremantle and Kwinana ports for the last eighty years.

The opening ceremony is conducted by:

Kevin James, Chief Executive of BP’s International Marine division;
Vicki Sutton, Marine Manager Australia/NZ.

Commenting ahead of the official opening, Kevin James said

"Over eighty years ago, BP’s predecessor company the Anglo-Persian Oil Company began importing fuel oil into East Fremantle Terminal, marking the start of BP’s involvement in Western Australia’s social and economic development."

"So it is appropriate that in this year in which we are celebrating BP’s Kwinana Refinery and its fiftieth year of fuelling WA that we also recognise the role played by East Fremantle Terminal both before and during the refinery’s operation."

"And it is fitting that the North Fremantle terminal has been given a new lease of life with its conversion into the base for BP’s marine fuels bunkering service for the ports of Fremantle and Kwinana."

"The Port of Fremantle is Western Australia ’s major general cargo facility, and BP Marine looks forward to continuing to provide bunkering services that ensure shipping needs are met."
