Saudi Aramco Awards Multiple Intelligent Well Contract to WellDynamics

Oil and gas intelligent completion specialist WellDynamics and Saudi Aramco have negotiated a major, one year, multi-well agreement for the provision of SmartWell® intelligent completions for oil and gas development wells, both onshore and offshore Saudi Arabia. The agreement commenced with the award of a 20 intelligent well completion contract. WellDynamics SmartWell technology will be applied initially to wells in the Abqaiq, Aindar, Haradh, Marjan and Shaybah assets.
The multiple SmartWell completion contract award follows the successful installation of the first SmartWell® completion in Saudi Arabia in a trilateral Maximum Reservoir Contact (MRC) well, Shaybah 119, in March 2004, and two subsequent installations in Abqaiq in December 2004. The Shaybah 119 completion is a 3-lateral SmartWell completion, employing hydraulically actuated interval control valves to allow selective variable choking of each of the 3 laterals, without costly intervention.
Saudi Aramco have identified SmartWell completions as an important technology to complement their Maximum Reservoir Contact well strategy. SmartWell technology provides inflow control from each lateral branch, resulting in more efficient clean up, stimulation and production control during the life of the well. Other applications include auto gas-lift and production allocation. SmartWell technology will help Saudi Aramco realize their objectives of maximum hydrocarbon recovery and prudent reserves management.
